  • Telemarketers - Quit It!

We've been owners of one week at a Florida resort for about four years. We purchased a second week while we were there last February. Within maybe a week after we got home, calls started coming in from companies looking to either buy our week or list it as available for exchange or rent.

I'd gotten a few of those calls in the past, mainly from RCI. Now we get calls from different companies practically every week - if not multiple times each week. I always tell them to put our number on their "Do Not Call" list...but we keep getting calls.

Any suggestions for minimizing and/or eliminating these [annoying/harassing/unnecessary/unwanted] calls?

This post is my first step to find a solution.

I'm guessing that - at the very least - these parasitic companies accessed our information through public records of property deeds.

    Thanks!

Welcome to the club.....every six months or so we are deluged with calls.....and tell all of them we are on the do not call list. They stop for awhile and then it starts up again. We are about due for the cycle to begin again.

I suggest you report the companies to the gov's do not call complaint web site.

Your phone # was sold. They figure if you spent $ on TS once you may do it again.

And they will pay you your asking price or more....all you need to do is send an upfront fee......if it sounds to good to be true....it is.

            I'm not so sure....

Not necessarily. For example, my home phone number has been unlisted and unpublished for many years now, so public record / deed info could never actually yield my phone number, or steer anyone to another source to find it. Yet, I too get these unsolicited (and unwelcome) calls on occasion, asking for me by specific name and actually also specifiying resort(s) at which I own week(s).

So...., my own theory / conclusion is that the unlisted, unpublished phone number information is somehow being gleaned from one (or both) of two probable sources, listed in order of my "suspect" priority:

            1. RCI. Although I no longer have (...or want to have) anything at all to do with RCI, they certainly once had my unlisted phone info. Moreover, the unsolicited calls I receive always reference an RCI affiliated resort. Just a coincidence? Maybe, but I have my doubts...

            2. Someone surreptitiously obtaining (and then selling?) owner info directly from a resort. While I don't believe the management company or the HOA would ever knowingly divulge any such information, all it would really take would be one disgruntled employee looking to make a few bucks "on the side" to find and release such info.
