There is an endless array of destinations
There is an endless array of destinations and possibilities. I now have the opportunity, and the motivation to travel more than I normally would. And at a reasonable cost. For that reasonable cost I get upscale accomodations rather than a rectangular room with 2 queen beds.Flying at MACH4 +

While I like several of the choices listed; exchange opertunities, quality, etc, I did pick the Luxury Villas selection. Nearly every time we use a resort, I have I walked into a villa and said or felt that 'it's good to be King'. I love the full units, full kitchen, big beds, great view, etc.
The one thing I though was missing from the survey (and you can't list everything) is 'destination'. We sometimes go TO a location and find a resort in that area. Having that ability to travel to a beach, a historic area or a wine area and getting a great resort makes the timeshare ownership worth it to us. That was my first choice.Don

As I have posted many times to people thinking of buying a timeshare is buy where you love going each year! This way you will always be happy and if you exchange one year thats just a plus.
We own two units at the Ridge Tahoe and love the resort and Lake Tahoe. We don't exchange much as we go up every July 4th week so every even year we use or rent out or exchange one of our unit with II.
2010 we have Labor Day week so have option of using, renting or exchanging and this is great.

My pick is easier to travel with family,
however, there were couple others I would also pick....
This December is going to be our first timeshare-ing.....:
Will be in fast life city also relaxing historyc area too.
Great to know, what is the standard for a resort stay...
oppose to a hotel room for same or even more money...

So far, I am the only one who voted for "Familiarity with the area where you own..." because we bought our timeshares in areas where we would like to have a home and live, if we could afford it. We love the beach and the ocean so all our timeshares look out over the Pacific Ocean and we enjoy every minute of it.
Owning a timeshare is a lot less worry than owning a condo so that is another advantage plus you have room to invite family or friends.
For traveling in general I prefer booking on the spur of the moment so timeshares are not practical for us.

I use to tell everyone the benefit of owning my timeshares was that we stayed at a luxury villa for the price of staying in a hotel. Unfortunately M/F fees and taxes are rising much faster than hotel stays. To add to the insult the rental price of the luxury villas are often less M/F fees and taxes.

I'm staying at a Fairfield Inn tonight because I couldn't get a timeshare available for just 1 night here in Boca. Boy do I miss my timeshares.
These hotel rooms remind me of why I didn't like to travel before I discovered timeshares. 3 of us in 2 double beds and only one TV.
I'm sure missing my luxury villas tonight.
