  • Southwest Airline Credits

We are going to have some Southwest Airline credit expire before we can use them, can you extend them for a fee and if so, how much does it cost and how long is the extension?

Yes, they can be extended, but only within a six month period AFTER they expire, for $50.

Six months (flights must be taken within that time).

Assuming you're talking about a Rapid Rewards award, I'd suggest you wait until you're ready to book your flights. Expired awards can be re-activated, and you get 12 months from the date you pay the fee.

"an Award may be reissued for a $50 fee. We will only consider reissuing Awards that have been expired less than 24 months. Members can request an Award reissue and pay for the fee(s) by credit card"

If you extend the award now it could expire again before you're ready to travel.

If this is credit from a cancelled flight...

you can book a ticket for anyone and use the credit. They don't charge a fee for someone else to use your credit. I've done it several times and just had the friend / relative reimburse me.

Can you do this on line, or do you need to call in to extend a credit for a cancelled flight?
