One of the gas stations in my area is doing it's part to try to bring the prices down. Valero located on Eliot Ave in Middle Village stopped selling gas to help bring pricing down. If you go by the pumps you will see a sign saying that if Valero sells less gas then they will have more inventory and that may bring the prices down. Once they bring prices down hopefully others will follow. The gas station that did this cares about our community as he has done many sponsored events and has donated much monies to area Schools.

I'm not sure I get how that works. If anything, it tightens the supply, which would bring prices up, no? Prices come down when demand is lower than supply, so people would have to want less gas, right? What's to keep anyone from just going down the street to buy the gas, and what keeps the gas station down the road from charging more because there is less competition?

Stop selling gas = higher, not lower prices in the area
Good intentions but I agree with 3 Kids 4Me. Now the other local stations can theoretically raise prices with one competitor out of the way. Need a "gas price war" where too much supply forces market participants to lower prices to get rid of excess capacity. I doubt this will happen until the USA fleet of vehicles (and users--"us") stops using so much fuel...Jeff (NJ)
