A new twist is becoming common on European airline booking sites that is NOT to the advantage of consumers. The site offers to change the price to dollars and ''guarantee'' the exchange rate. The problem is that the rate they give you is an absolutely awful rate. It is much better to leave it in the foreign currency. The currency conversion they do does not even save you from the usually 3% junk fees charged by your own credit card, because these days those are ''foreign use'' surcharges rather than ''foreign exchange'' surcharges, so you get hit with the 3% even if it is in dollars.
Often the airline site automatically checks the box for the currency conversion, so you have to look for it and uncheck it.
