    Ocean Palms

[QUOTE=Jennie;366545]The Ocean Palms building is very nice. Don't worry at all about booking there. It is located on the same property as the Wyndham Sea Gardens Resort, which receives mixed reviews because some of those units are older and not always upgraded. But the Ocean Palms is the newest and nicest building. The reviews are excellent when not lumped together with the Sea Garden reviews. It is located in Pompano which is just a few miles north of Ft. Lauderdale along A1A, the road that parallels the ocean as it passes through many towns.

UGH!!! I did cancel my reservation there!!! I guess the Sea Gardens review on tripadvisor just did it for me. I will put it back on the list.

    Thanks

You know I take tripadvisor ratings very cautiously. I find some people will give a place a horrible rating because of one little inconvenience, like the check in people didn't smile at them. It's the ugly American syndrome. I think I trust more the people who give it a positive review because I think that maybe they are like me, that for such a bargain price I don't expect perfection but if I get a nice clean comfortable place for Motel 6 prices, I am very pleased.

Now maybe, they are paying high retail so then their expectations are of course higher and mine probably would be too.

Heck, I even don't mind staying at Westgate when I can get a week for $79.

I think the ratings on RCI are more accurate most times than tripadvisor.

        Nice resort in Florida

Yes, I know what you mean although if I see all bad ratings, it's probably not too nice. Some people complain no matter what but what Frank posted on this forum was horrific and so I guess even at the nicest resort, bad things could happen. I appreciated his input and will be very wary of any Wyndham properties as I have heard from others about their tactics on the "free gift" or a "welcome package", which is a bait and hook. This happened to a friend I sent over to one of the Wyndham's for a gift trip. Just need to learn to handle the timeshare tactics as the sales people must be hurting bad in this economy. Being in real estate myself, I know my income has been cut in half this year, although it is picking up. Just can't imagine trying sell timeshare in this economy. Although with all that said, what happened to him was in excusable. It would have taken more than a free trip for me to make up for what they did to his family. Thank you for your input about looking more into the RCI ratings and all others who posted on the board as this information has been very helpful.

Keep in mind that tripadvisor reviews are done primarliy by folks accustomed to staying in hotels and motels. Because timeshares do not provide some of the perks of hotel and motel lodging such as daily maid service, they can get lower reviews.

Tripadvisor can be used as a guide by using the rankings rather than the reviews, and by comparing only with other timeshare resorts.

Let me go look at my word processor for an example . . . Well, what do you know , although it is not current, here's where I did that for Kissimmee:

Fairfield at Cypress Palms~~~#2 of 190 in Kissimmee
Sunterra Polynesian Isles Resort~~~ #5 of 190 Hotels in Kissimmee
Vacation Village at Parkway~~~#11 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Orange Lake Resort and Country Club~~~#15 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Parkway International Resort~~~#17 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Orbit One Vacation Villas~~~#23 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Oak Plantation~~~#24 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Summer Bay Resort~~~#29 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Lake Marion Golf Resort~~~#32 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Grand Lake Resort~~~33 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Wyndham Palms Resort and Country Club~~~#36 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Star Island Resort and Club~~~#44 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Celebrity Resorts Orlando~~~#46 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Silver Lake Resort~~~#48 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Celebration World Resort~~~#51 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Magic Tree Resort~~~#64 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Fairfield Star Island Resort~~~#69 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Universal Resort~~~#70 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Westgate Vacation Villas~~~#92 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee
Westgate Towers~~~#94 of 190 hotels in Kissimmee

See how you can see how timeshares stack up against each other?

As to the OP, I have resisted saying much, cuz good is in the eyes of the beholder. Florida offers more variety in TS resorts than anywhere, from developer-controlled mega-resorts for feedlot-style vacations to small, intimate beach resorts that the developer left 20-30 years ago.

          Everyone has their own preference.
