We are going to be staying 2 weeks in Hawaii in April. The first week will be at the KCR at Kona on the Big Island and the second week will at Waikiki Beach on Oahu.
I had the option of multi-city booking ( HNL-KOA-HNL-LAX ) or 2 return tickets ( LAX-HNL and HNL-KOA ). I spent a lot of time searching before I came up with the best combination of schedule and price. I checked "Cheap Tickets", "Sidestep", "Bing", "Cheap Flights", "Booking Buddy", and all the airlines that go there.
It turned out that the multi-city option was by far the best route to go. "Cheap Tickets" had the best options. The 3rd party travel sites are much better for multi-city flights. They offer many options that are not available at all from the airlines. One thing to note is that changing the depart or arrive time on the same dates by just an hour or 2 can change the whole picture. By jiggling things around I was able to find a good fare and schedule on "Cheap Tickets" so I just booked it.
I got a fare of $468 /pp flying on American from LAX connecting to Mesa from HNL to KOA, Mesa from KOA to HNL, American from HNL to LAX. All flights are on Saturday with a week between each one. The total cost for the 2 of us is $1070 including all taxes and fees.
