  • Plane Fare LAX to Lihue

I googled this and the first site (a cheap fare site) was showing $560-$660 RT.

Is it really that high now?

By "now" do you mean today or is there a specific time frame?

And of course you know that fares flip on a dime, so "now" maybe $560 to $660, but the other "now" might be $395 to $450....of course, the later "now" vs. now "now" might change to $660 to $800...

"Now", does that make it any clearer?

I mean nowadays now v. when we went 10 years ago, when we went from Kansas City to Lihue for the same amount.

Nowadays now, by the time I add RT from here to LAX, it's really high. I was hoping for it to be lower because we have Allegiant to LAX,

Since I can't get SW FL for Jan. 2012, we were considering Kauai, since I can see stuff there.

It's been that high since sometime early in 2008. Prices had gone up in the fall of 2007 but they had come back down. I was watching a PHX-OGG flight that was at $405 in December of 2007 trying to wait it for it to drop to $350 and instead it went to $550 and stayed there or higher ever since.

All I know is that in the old days, when we were interested in going to HA before, there would be frequent posts about discount fares from the West Coast direct to Lihue, instead of Honolulu.

In February we booked roundtrip from San Jose to the Big Island on Alaska Airlines for $359 roundtrip. That is including all the fees and taxes. Prices were $169 plus taxes, one way. They also had flights to Maui for the same price.

It is best to sign up for emails from the airlines. They send you special prices via email.

At least two of the cheaper carriers who flew to Hawaii from the west coast went out of business in early 2008. ATA and Aloha both went belly up in March/April of 2008. Without low cost competition, there is no incentive to lower prices.

When we (4 of us) went to Kauai before, I originally booked airfare through a Honolulu travel service. At some point I got concerned about our flights being confirmed.

It turned out the travel service had some bad connections and when I contacted a State agency, the guy running the scam turned up dead.

I then booked our flights direct with the airline, and for less.
