  • How Does The Average Family Vacation?

You might be surprised. The following poll is on a Branson forum:

If you have a family of four, or more, do all of you stay in one motel room on vacation?

    Yes, we do.

    No, we don't.

    The results so far:

    Yes, we do. 18 69.23%
    No, we don't. 8 30.77%

I'm not surprised in the least. Almost everyone I know considers four people in a hotel room a vacation. I honestly do not understand this thinking, but these appear to be otherwise intelligent people.

My mother in law invited us to a timeshare for a few days, we always hated the idea, 2 bedrooms blew us away, we bought our first timeshare a month later.

Before we discovered timesharing, our family of 5 shared one hotel room. 2 in each bed plus a rollaway.

          5 in a room?

I'd rather stay home. Boy am I spoiled.

I grew up in what was called a broken home back then. We did not vacation until I was 9 or 10.

Then, even though she could not afford it, Mom got a cabin at the lake for a week for she , my brother and me.

DW says they never got a motel room growing up, ever. Vacation was to go visit family and stay with them.

              We did that, too.

We've got five kids, and for years if we couldn't get two adjoining rooms or a suite we'd squeeze into one. Lot more feasible when they're all six or younger than it is once they get past that point, though. Especially when all the ones past the age of 12 are taller than I am.

My parents had three kids and we were always in one hotel room while traveling. That or we were camping in a tent - and I hate camping even if I have my own tent. Hubby and I traveled to visit relatives because family's important, but I had absolutely no interest in vacationing before experiencing TSing.

Bad grammar . . . make it her instead of she, and take that space out.

I love my family, but I don't stay with any of them on trips.

We have 2 children and only end up staying in TSs about 1/3 of the time. Those are my favorite stays, but we're perfectly happy in staying in suites like Embassy Suites too. At the end of the day I need some adult time with my children sleeping in their own room. We don't stay in standard hotel rooms, or in TS studio rooms. I think I'd rather not go. Really.

                      That's why I won't camp, even in a camper.

We've gotten so spoiled by TS that I avoid motels/hotels whenever possible. We had one night when 4 of us had to stay in a hotel a few years ago, and I got a suite. Same thing last year. We were in FL 2 weeks. Spent one at a TS and one at All-Star Music. It's the only economy resort that offers the family suites - well worth the extra cost for a family with three active teens. We could close the bedroom door and get some privacy. Plus the suite had a microwave, coffee maker and fridge.

When I was growing up we would drive to Lake Placid every other summer where we stayed with grandma. I can't remember staying in a hotel room but I'm sure we did. The year we didn't go there we would go to MB and stay at Mrs Murphy's Beach House. Mom used to say when I got older to stay in the cheaper motels and walk across and party in the fancy ones. shaggy
