Technically, we do, but it's not "for" the vacation. We stay in a hotel or motel when driving somewhere past a day's travel or while visiting relatives (when we're barely in the room), and only started getting two rooms recently (now our eldest is old enough to keep an eye on her siblings in one room). So we do stay in hotels or motels while "on vacation."

But we never Vacation Vacationed until we discovered a points system TS. Never saw the point to it, because staying in a hotel or motel room, however fancy and however many people you've got in there, just is not a vacation in our book.

We've done it but I hate it. I'll only do it for one night.

Count me in with the others. For one night, usually in transit, we might make do with just one room. For example, if we have an early morning flight, we'll often stay at the DTW Westin on their valet parking rate, and I do just one room then. But, even before timeshare, we used to rent private homes or stay in Residence Inns or similar with separate rooms. So, I think I qualify as "no" even though technically I do. I'll let JLB make the call, and cast my vote accordingly.

By on vacation, I intended to mean for the duration of the vacation, the only lodging used during the entire vacation, the motel is the vacation, not going to or from the vacation.

Then that would be a "no, we don't". And we never have, ever since our first was born---well before we started timesharing.

Generally speaking, no way, but we did it last month!

              And it wasn't horrible!

We had planned 4 days in a 3 bedroom house, then one night at a regular hotel (Desert Pearl Inn in Springdale Utah outside Zion NP), then another 3 bedroom timeshare in St. George for 2 nights.

To our utter shock, the five of us in the hotel room worked fine! I'm sure it was better because the weather was lovely, and DPI has an entire wall of windows along the back wall opening out to a grassy area and a river bank where the kids could play. Very charming, very open feeling. No carpet on the floors, either. That always seems icky to us in hotels.

So we actually opted to skip one of our nights in St. George (prepaid bc it was RCI Points timeshare) and stay at Desert Pearl Inn another night!

In that case, no, we don't. We do dawdle on our drive to somewhere and stay overnight when we could technically get to the condo with a days drive, because we want to hit something on the way down and not feel rushed, but after a night or two in motels we want to be somewhere with space and a full kitchen. Okay, I want that space and kitchen. Not sure hubby or the kids really care.

Then I'd have to change to kind of. We use timeshares when we are traveling to locations where we can aquire a timeshare for our stay. We use hotels/motels for vacations of shorter durations (like a road trip where we only stay in a place for a couple of nights). So, there have been vacations that have been entirely spent in timeshares, entirely spent in hotels/motels, or a combination of the two.

                    Vacations? No way!.

Even before I bought TS's I was like BNoble staying in Residence Inns and Embassy Suites and renting TS's. With all the suite hotels out there now, who needs to cram into one room for more than one night. Actually it's not the cramming in so much as the bathroom issue and there is always someone who wants to watch TV all night (not me) so I don't sleep that well and it's just not worth it. I'd rather stay home until I can afford to do it comfortably.

Thank God I discovered TS's or I probably wouldn't travel as much as I do.

Nope, my children are grown now and out of the house, but when I had two teenage girls, we needed the extra bathroom!

we did when the kids were younger but once they turned 10 and 12 we went for suite type hotels - and then came timesharing.

I may have to change my vote. I said yes. But when we stay for several days at a hotel (rarely - because I try to make sure we vacation in a TS), I get a suite. My kids are teens now, so we need the extra space and privacy. I gues technically, it's still a 1 BDRM, but sleeps 4 or more. On one occasion that I can think of, there were no suites available, so we opted for 2 adjoining rooms.

We used to when the kids were younger, then when they got older we had 2 hotel rooms, adjoining. Now, we take my grandson on vacation quite a bit and he turns his nose up if we have to stay in a hotel for a night...he wants to know where the kitchen and living rooms are.
