  • Have you ever taken a TS/trip for educational reasons?

Sometimes a timeshare is located in an historic location...and it can be fun to visit and learn at the same time. Have you taken a TS for such a purpose?
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

absolutely. One of our favorite things to do is to go to national parks and have my kids go through the junior ranger programs. They collect the badges from all over the country.

Same here. I have always tried to include something educational in our timeshare visits-especially when I have taken them out of school to do so.

My DS was 7 when he went through the Jr Ranger program at The Pearl Harbor Memorial. This year I will take him back 10 plus years later with his now passion for US History and especially WWII and our Nations Veterans.

      Coincidence? Maybe......maybe not.

        Interesting question

There is no appeal in going on a trip where I can't do/see/learn something new, so I've never done it.

I'm having difficulty imagining a trip that isn't educational because I also define learning a new skill educational. With that definition, learning to ski, snorkel, scuba dive, mountain hike, white water rafting etc are all educational.

Absolutely. 3 years ago DD's class was going to Kennedy Space Center. The price was very high. We decided to not have her go on that but instead use the $$ to got to St. Augustine for the week and catch the Space Center on the way home. We all got much more value of of the trip and the $$ spent.

This year the class is going to Washington DC. Same outrageous cost - and we all know how little the kids actually learn on such trips. So we are going for the week to Williamsburg. Ok, not the same as DC but still very educational and a better use of our funds. We then will spend a 2nd week in Gatlinburg.... visiting the national parks and Dollywood, learning about their culture

I learn so much about places/people/culture just doing the research. Even if I didn't actually end up taking the trip (like our non-Paris adventure right now), I've still learned a vast amount. And as I talk endlessly about what I am learning, the rest of the family learns things too.

Yes, when we take Grandchildren along we always try to work in at least one day of education. Also, we have taken them to National Parks and took the oldest two to Washington, DC. We are now trying to catch all of the Presidential Libraries for ourselves.

I also do this, when Kelli was little and in elem school, I asked her special ed teacher to get me all her lessons and I'd make sure it would get done. He said that she would learn more in one week with me than a month at school. Her homework was to do a journal every day of what she did and learned. The trip was to the outerbanks and included lighthouses, the wright bros memorial, ferries, tidepools, etc. She loved it and made an A . Other trips we took were williamsburg, DC, Massanutten where she discovered her love for caves, we went to 7 different ones, and on this trip she first met the Amish for the first time.

I love it when we watch Jeopardy and they do Nat'l Parks or US geography and she blurts out the answer before the contestants.

Hopefully thru our travels I have given her the love of adventure and the love of learning about the area. Even in our upcoming trip to SF she will learn about Alcatraz and other things. shaggy

When my son was young (now 37), his teacher had the same attitude, and also assigned a journal. This was 5 weeks of missed school (he was an A student, 5th grade). We have taken so very many trips together, but to date, not a few months go by before he mentions something from that amazing cross country trip in 5th grade!

We now do similar trips (but shorter) with his daughters (6 & 10). They are little sponges and are so excited for new adventures, no matter what!
I am always excited about new adventures as well!! Everything you didn't know before, but learn or experience on a vacation, is educational.

We don't have kids, but our vacations are full of learning opportunities. We don't relax on a beach, we are at national parks, museums, etc. on every vacation.

                    TS/ education....

Well, every single trip we make!!
Befor I book alwys look for what to see and learn there.
I'm traveling with two highly gifted girls...ages 7 and 10.
They are in French immesion school during the day,(living in Canada)
Saturday they learn Hungarian, othervise the speak English.
It seems to me, they brain capcity is endless, always searching for something...and the whole vacation is more entetainig if they are busy....
We love nature and history....Outerbanks, NC., did it all...
Williamsburg,Va.. extended Christmas break...we just had to do 3 weeks!
I was told the same by their teachers...both learn much more during these
                    trips than at school.
I can call ourself lucky, we take 6-8 trips a year and 2 months cottage during
                    summer.
When they can travel and TS by themselfs, I guess our trips are going to be more adult kind, lazy with sleep ins after a candle light dinner.....
                    Love TS-ing,works for us.

Every trip is educational, if only for the food.

My annual trip to London has yet to exhaust possibilities there and my six weeks in Steamboat Springs has help me to learn to ski better every year as well as become a part of the community there.

                      Cheers
