Just fly Southwest. Never a charge for checked bags (up to two).

While I don't plan on flying Delta in the near future thanks to their horrible FF program (have 37,000 miles and can't get a seat) I will give them props for how they handled a bad situation last week.

We had a flight out of MCI to SLC with a 5 hour and 45 minute layover. Believe it not, everyone on that flight missed their connection. When everyone exited the plane there were several Delta agents that met us at the gate with $12 per person in food vouchers and hotel vouchers for the night. They also gave everyone their boarding passes for the next day so no one had to go to the ticket counter of call Delta to reschedule their flights. In all the years I've flown it was the best service I'd seen when things went horribly wrong.

It's to bad I can't get a FF seat for less than 40,000 miles. Otherwise I might have been tempted to take out an AE card (was treated badly by their CS dept. Long story but I avoid them like the plague now) and would be more inclined to book all our flights on Delta. As it is I have two flights booked on Frontier and one on American. At least two of those flights would normally have been booked on Delta if not for changes they made to their FF program. I just refuse to book FF tickets for 40,000 miles when I can get them for 25,000 miles on just about every other carrier. For that matter, FF seats on Frontier are only 20,000 miles right now.

Make sure everyone in your party is booked under the same confirmation #.

I just flew SLC-JFK and 1 person in my party was booked under a different conf#, and they charged $25 for baggage.

While Skymiles has many drawbacks, at least they give the option for AmEx Skymiles cardholders of offering gift cards to chain restaurants/dept stores for 1 cent/point. Also, the pay with miles has been useful for us at times.

Well this did save me over $100, 2 going 2 coming home is $100 plus they over looked the over weight on the return but what happened as I was just entering the security area, The Delta rep stopped us and asked us to put our carry on in the little metal suit case checker. We had 2 stuffed duffel's that looked 2x bigger and was told they both needed to be checked, We kind of got it part of the way into there metal mold of Faith when I showed her my Gold card and she said OK go in.

We have a chase checking account (card fee is $25.00 per year) with the onepass miles attached to it. Get miles for what you buy anyways........we just recently got the CC ($85.00 annual fee) and received 25,000 more miles and for one authorized user under you, you get another 5,000 miles..........but when I called and added my husband and my daughter and then my mother........well READ THE FINE PRINT...IT IS ONLY FOR ONE PERSON AND THEN IT HAS TO BE WITHIN 62 DAYS OF FIRST PURCHASE....so in turn I felt like I lost out on 15,000 miles but still they all get there bags on free should they take a trip and use Continental airlines...We have already used this feature twice and my Mom is going to use it this Dec. and my daughter maybe next month. I am planning on canceling the card after the trips.........first year annual fee was waived...
