  • Southwest change on unused travel funds

Cancel Air Reservation This page allows you to retrieve a Southwest Airlines reservation prior to cancelling it. Reservations purchased through Southwest Vacations, Southwest Groups, and Southwest ticket counters cannot be cancelled online. Please call 1-800-I-FLY-SWA 1-800-I-FLY-SWA ( 1-800-435-9792 1-800-435-9792 ) if you require assistance with those types of reservations.

Effective January 28, 2011, unused travel funds may only be applied toward the purchase of future travel for the individual named on the ticket.

Couldn't find anything yet, on their website on if there is a change on Rapid Rewards Ticketing. Does anyone know?

I couldn't find anything indicating changes on Rapid Rewards either. But remember, the change on travel funds doesn't start until January, 2011.

I monitor a SWA forum - no news about Rewards Certificates. Only this change noted in the original post.

I must admit - I wish they don't do it. But, I will still accept and love the fact that they are one of the only airlines that I know that will let you keep the full fare on credit for a year if you cancel. And, let's not foget you can always switch your tickets to cheaper ones if they come up and get the difference as credit for a year.

Do I wish I had the flexiblity of using the credit where I want - certainly - but I am also thankful that I have the credit in the first place!
