Wow, I'm shocked at how many forums are out there.

How do you guys keep up with all this stuff?

I can barely keep up with the 3 that I frequent.

I use Priceline a lot. And I love it. I have never heard of those website to help you make informed bids - what a great idea that is.

I have gotten some phenomenal deals - nothing matching Big Frank's - but I got two rooms at the Royal Lahaina for $79 each per night. I was really happy with it.

I have also gotten the Hilton on Mission Bay in San Diego for $70 per night.

I have a gamblers instinct and really enjoy the roll of the dice and the surprise at the end. And that is what it is, a crap shoot.

If you bid 4* or more, it turn out nice . Also, by using betterbidding.com, you will know with a fair degree of accuracy, what hotel you are likely getting.

Just know that when you use Priceline you are guaranteed a room for only 2 people. When you use Hotwire you can get a room guaranteed for up to 4 people. Hotiwre lets you enter how many travelers up to 4. A few days go I used Hotwire instead of Priceline because I needed a room for 4 people and I did not want to take a change with Priceline and only end up with with a room with one bed.

I found that out when I used Travelocity too. They confirmed a king bed and we were 3 but luckily since it was only one night the hotel put us in a double room so it wasn't an issue but I could see this as a problem otherwise.

On this trip it's 3 of us just wanting our own room so it doesn't matter what they give us bed wise.

Okay, I've put in bids for 3 days now. I guess that William Shatner commercial is all fluff because I haven't gotten a match yet.

Maybe I'm not going high enough but if I can get a room for $200-$269 thru the corporate websites, should I not be able to get a room for $125?

Am I being too aggressive? I've got time to play with it but also want to just get it over with. I see people getting really cheap deals posting all the time on flyertalk and other forums. I also checked the forums you guys said and I don't seem to be out of line, so am I just too early for an Oct 1-3 stay for this year? Do they not have the inventory yet?

Just curious if I'm bidding too early.

The closer you are to the stay, the better the price--but it can be nerve wracking. You may be looking at a time that is expected to be very busy and the hotels simply aren't releasing inventory. We ran into that in Munich. For the period we wanted, there was nothing--on Priceline or from individual hotels for a price I was willing to pay; it turned out there was a European Union trade conference going on. We re-routed and spent time in Brussels and then went to Munich. Then we had no problem getting a 4* room for $75.00. You might try calling one of the major hotels and asking about rates and then asking if there is anything special going on at that time just so you have an idea.
