Pizza scam at the hotel.

I'm staying at Animal Kingdom in Disney this week and found it odd that there were flyers from a pizza restaurant appearing like they were thrown under my door. I have two rooms and there was a flyer on both sides on the floor.

It was definetely not Disney a endorsed restaurant. One of the staff members told us that it's a scam. When you call to order the pizza, they take your credit card number and never deliver the pizza. They said it's happening all over town not just at Disney.

At Disney you'd have thought they could catch the perpetrators on camera but it might possibly be an inside job. We went to see a newly cleaned room and suspiciously the pizza flyer was already on the floor despite the previous guests having just checked out less than an hour before. Hmmmmmm.
A coincidence?

Since scams travel fast, I'm sure we'll be seeing this or some version of it all over the travel world soon so just wanted to give you a heads up.

This is nothing new in Orlando & has been an ongoing "war" between the fake pizza flyer guys & resorts for years. They even passed a specific local law to deal with it.

With the security supposedly so tight at Disney they should have better control but obviously it can be avoided or compromised like any system can. If it's an inside job that makes it even worse.

This is the fourth time I've seen this scam mentioned this week.. I didn't pay attention the first time, but the others were in a Boston paper website, on a motorcycle forum about a Daytona resort, and also on a complaint website about flyers at Bonnet Creek..

I googled it and it appears it's been happening for some time now..

Interesting because I travel alot like most of you guys and this is the first time I've noticed it. Maybe I just didn't realize it before since it took a cast member to warn us not to order so I might have overlooked it elsewhere.

Usually I never order delivery on vacation anyway so probably would have tossed it anyway.

I've been seeing these for years now in the Orlando area. Less often at resorts with gate-controlled access, but still even there.

Some of them actually will deliver a pizza (all the better to allay your suspicions)---they'll by some $5 specials and resell them to the tourists for $25, *and* keep the CC numbers for later.

Where are the CC companies??

The complaints must pile up fast? How do these theives get the autorization to charge on CC's so fast.

They must not do a business background check!

If the merchant doesn't have a physical card run, they usually lose. If the crooks make fake cards with magstripes, then the CC company eats it. That's why they charge 18% interest---when inflation is effectively flat.

It is not just the pizza maker, There are 4 main factors, Sauce, Mozzarella and Grated Cheese, Water and Climate/air pressure which makes the dough rise.

BTW Why would anyone give a CC for food delivery. I could see if you order from Pizza hut online but in no way would I give my CC for over the phone for a delivery

I use my CC for everything Frank but I usually only order delivery to places that I frequent near my home. I guess I've just been lucky with the local restaurants but I did get my card swiped once in Washington DC at a gas station when I had to go inside to pay. Now I only go to gas stations that I can swipe at the pump. Maybe it doesn't help but so far so good.

I also use my CC for everything. Restaurants are double mile and add up fast over a months time. I don't typically order from a flyer stuck under the door but, I have to say I wouldn't have thought about it being a scam either. It's getting so you just about can't trust anyone and that's going to hurt the small local businesses more than the big chains.

Normally, if I'm going to order a pizza for delivery and use my CC, I'll order from a chain I know and order online or, I'll order from a store I've seen and know is in business.

Once you hang around Flyertalk you start racking up miles you didn't know existed. I gotta stay away from that forum. They're true addicts.
