We are planning a cruise on the Pride of America in April. I am looking for suggestion of things to do or "not do" while we are on the different islands. We will be on Maui, Hilo, Kona, and Kauai. To narrow the suggestions we will not be snorkeling and probably not going on helicopter rides because our 8 year old daughter will be along, so we will be restricted to certain activities. We will be arriving 3 days prior to the ship leaving to do things around Oahu such as Diamond Head, USS Arizona, Dole Plantation. Any suggestions on car rentals and/or tour providers is greatly appreciated.

It's been 6 years since I have been (on that same ship) and I honestly can't remember the specifc places we went to. But, I will tell you what we did.....
The cruise line will tours. We got our info on the "spots" to go to and rented a car at each port. (there are car rental buses at each port that will take you to the agency office). The cost for the car was around $50 a day. But, we were able to visit a heck of alot more "spots" at each port. Plus we did it on our own terms. AND.....even though we had to pay for the car rental it ended up being MUCH cheaper that what the cruise line offered.

I got a great deal on a rental car for my Dad on Oahu in May through Priceline. If I could only do one thing on Kauai, it'd be a boat tour of the Napali coast. On Maui I would do the road to Hana. How long do you have in each place? From Kona, if you eliminate snorkeling, I would suggest the museum where all the turtles are in the water by the rocks -- most people snorkel there but you can hang out on the rocks and see them without snorkeling -- someone will know the name... From Hilo, if you don't have time to do Volcano National Park, I would do Akaka Falls. Or both. But VNP is a big time investment, while Akaka Falls can be done in a short time (an easy walk through the park to the falls through beautiful gardens)
