Do you have to take e-readers out of your carry on baggage and run them separate thru the scanning equipment?

I've heard yes and no. Someone reported the scanners fried their Kindle. Others say they've travelled a lot and never had a problem.

If you are interested in a Kindle. Go to Amazon. Click on Kindle then on ebooks. Look for Discussions and read some of them.

In general, no. I used to carry my kindle on all the time. No damage, was never asked to take it out. Now, I typically travel with an ipad instead, and likewise that generally does not need to come out of the case.

      TSA Policy here:

Note that you can always be asked to take it out, but you don't have to a priori.

I have not had to take out my nook. The scanners have not hurt it at all.

Ditto...at least 30 roundtrips last year without ever removing it - including int'l trips to Europe, Australia and So Africa. I read it for several hours on a flight home last nite...so clearly it hasn't been "fried".

          Safe travels.
