It almost makes going to the US a bargain, without even doing any shopping. We get a couple Restaurant.com certificates, and take a drive to Port Huron. Fill up on gas there and it pay's for dinner!

Fly vs. drive
Today's paper reported on how some families a changing their summer vacation plans because of gas prices. We're shortening our stay at the timeshare by a day and driving 12 hours each way instead of flying. Driving is still cheaper than 1 airline ticket to the destination, so we'll enjoy the scenery on the way and support the economy in our gas sipping auto.Jeanne

The rising cost of gas has trickle down effects. It means food and other commodities go up in prices because it costs more to ship. We had planned on a cruise this summer and decided in early winter to not make the reservations. With rising prices, job uncertainty for myself and DH, and two kids in college, we don't want to spend that much extra money. We'll be doing a lot of short, local trips this year. I'm breaking out the tent and we'll spend some family time in campgrounds. They are typically much more relaxing anyway than hotels.
