  • I'm out of ideas......

Looking for a little input for upcoming TS vacations. Any suggestions?
Also - any area that might not be TS is ok to since I know I am last minute

    Here is some background:
    2 adults and a 5YO.
Need family friendly attractions close to resort
Live in New England so to keep flight time down with the 5YO east coast/central US is preferred.
Also we are coastal - so beach is not a big thing for us in the summer months.
Last two weeks in June are the weeks I need help with.
Don't want any extreme temps - not looking for 100 degrees!

    We have already done:
    Hershey, PA
    Williamsburge, PA
    Langhorne, PA (seasame place)
New Hampshire and Orlando more times than I can count.

I have looked into Branson - but my 5YO is scared of shows. Don't ask why -I'm not sure - she won't even go see her favorite charachters live.

You may have already hit this area when you did Hershey, but Pennsylvania Dutch near Strausburg. We try to hit this area every 2 years alternating between summer and fall. No TS's. If you've never done the area, you could spend a week. If you have, 4 days would work.
Dutch Wonderland- nice for a 5 year old because there is no ride that she can't get on as long as you are with her including the big roller coaster and most rides she could go on by herself.

Strausburg Railroad and PA Railroad museum

        Sound and Sight Theater

PA dutch tours, buggy rides, etc (mainly run by Mennonites)

Cherry crest farms amaizing maze and petting zoo

There is a campground adjacent to Dutch Wonderland that is convenient to the park and a bunch of others in the area.

Ok - tell me about Smugglers Notch - I constantly get mailings from them for ski season - but nothing about the summer.

Wisconsin Dells! You fly to Chicago and then drive up.

                        Beautiful mountains, hiking, outdoor activities
                        Huge resort campus
                        Large units
Many pools and activities (some at a fee)
                        Kids' camp (extra fee)
An hour from Lake Champlain, 90 mins to Montreal
                        Close to Burlington and Stowe
Stowe - Ben and Jerry's factory tour

note that through RCI there is a $315/week per unit charge to use the more elaborate of the pools but this also gets you a discount on the camps.

This is a place families go year after year. 5 is a good age to start.

Chatauqua Lake in WNY is a great area if you can trade in. There is fishing wildlife viewing, sightseeing, winery tours, casino gambling and much more within an hour of there.

The camps are fabulous and well worth the $. Even my jaded pre-teen at the time enjoyed himself the 2 times we went one summer. The campus is large and well maintained.

I posted last 2 weeks in June check-in for you in 2012 as it is available in RCI. Camps do begin that mid-June check-in date.

My personal favorite space is Rum Runners. Well worth the effort to get to.

Another thought is Massanutten. This may also be a very good fit for you and your family. Indoor water parks, lots of craft classes and things for the kids.I have not been myself but have hear very good things.
