Boston subway question

Here's another Nancy travel question.

Want to visit Boston and would like to stay out of downtown, but near a subway stop. Any recommendations where to stay? Walk to subway would be wonderful, but drive okay as long as there is sufficient parking.

If you can get a priceline deal on Marriott Cambridge it is directly on the red line and a simple short ride into town. Not sure of parking scenario though. Whether it is free on site or not. You'd have to call.

The Cambridge Residence Inn is in the next block. We've stayed there a couple of times.
