  • timeshare near Tenafly NJ? Westborough MA?

My sister is getting married Sept 10 in Tenafly.
My son lives in Westborough MA. He and his wife are teachers, no children.
My daughter and her family want to come in for the wedding and take a weeks vacation. We would probably all get around in our car, daughters family fly in and we drive in.
I think my son would find it hard to put all of us up while he is working. I know there are timeshares in the Berkshires but are there any nearer to either location? My grandson will be 2.

I think for the wedding you should plan on staying near Tenafly - there is a Marriott in Teaneck about 6 miles away....check with Wackymother as she lives in this area.

It would be a very nice time of year to visit the Marriott Fairway Villas near Atlantic City NJ - I say near because it is actually a golf resort a few miles from AC. They have 2 golf courses, a nice outdoor and indoor pool area, Red Door Salon and many many attractions in the surrounding area. Very nice, upscale resort dedicated 2BRs with fireplace/screen porch with fairway/woodland views. Near ocean beaches as well.

If you go north near your son (who is really in the suburbs of Boston) - I have stayed in Oak n Spruce, a great location to tour that area of the Berkshires but just an average resort. Further north is the Ponds at Fox Hollow in Lenox MA - a nice resort and nice location.

    Decisions, decisions

Yes, Pat is right. The closest large hotel would be the Marriott Glenpointe in Teaneck. There's also the Clinton Inn in Tenafly--I've never stayed there myself, but it's right by the downtown part of Tenafly with some nice stores and restaurants in walking distance, while the Marriott is not really near anything in walking distance.

For timeshares...well, let's see. There's Minerals out in west Jersey. Chap 7 has been there and says it's nice and the pool is really great. Also, in my beloved Poconos, there's Split Rock. Try to stay in Willowbrook, the newest section (trades through II). Split Rock has a waterpark and a lot of activities for kids. There are plenty of other places in the Poconos, too. PM me if you want a full analysis of every timeshare out there!

How did I know you would mention the Poconos???
        And I couldn't remember the Clinton Inn....Thx.

Between Tenafly and Boston, yes, there's Oak n Spruce. We like it there. Also Vacation Village in the Berkshires, and a Wyndham in the Berkshires. All supposed to be nice.

In Connecticut, there's Water's Edge, but only Frank has stayed there--it's a very difficult trade! Your little 2yo grandson would like Mystic, because it has an aquarium and a big seaport museum with boats and activities. There are no timeshares near there, but in September the hotels should be very reasonable.

we went to Mystic in 1985 when the kids were young. liked it a lot.
I appreciate these suggestions, my geography is very sparse on this area.
we were thinking that we would drive through the Poconos on the way to Tenafly, are we right? Or we could try for the Marriot, not sure of geography. we could try for a timeshare by ourselves the week before, stay at the clinton inn over the weekend witht he family and either do the Berkshires for some of the week and visit my son on the weekend. We would have to arrange for my daughter and family to fly in to one airport and fly out another.
I just don't think my son and his wife could put up with a two year old. they have no children and have very high expectations for behavior. and we call my son inlaw Big Travis for more than one reason while my daughter in law weighs about 90 pounds and eats accordingly, and so does my son.

I was thinking that you could also go to Cape Cod. It would be nice there in September. More later!

Or all those TS in Newport RI....September in the Northeast is just beautiful.

You will really enjoy the Marriott Fairway Villas for 'adult time' - and while I do not know your son, ANY company for more then 2-3 days is difficult - ESPECIALLY since DS and wife will be going to work every day.
You are very thoughtful to make plans that will include everyone.

Fairway Villas is 125 miles (2 1/4 hours) south of Tenafly - it is a pleasant drive - there is a direct highway/straight run to Philidelphia - about 75 minutes. Cape May is the tip of NJ - and within 50 miles....wonderful area to drive around/stop/ tour/lunch.

I did this last year in March for the Atlantic City Restaurant week with IreneLF - we had fun even in the winter, visited wild life preserves/lighthouses/casinos - it would be fabulous in September.

oh you don't have to do that. i was just wondering if it was doable. this is going to be a complicated week to figure out the logistics.

a week at Tanglewood resort in Hawley Pa is available for the week before the wedding. anyone have experience with it?
we could get a sunday to sunday in the Berkshires.
My daughter could care less about scenery.
Do you think there is much possiblility of getting a two bedroom on Cape Cod for week of Sept 10th?

If Tanglewood is in the Poconos, send wackymother a pm as she is very familiar with the area.

lots of news since i posted.
Son and daughter in law, expecting first child late October. right now she is still very sick, nauseated all day, missed over a month of work, under 90 pounds, anyhow, they don't want entire family for a week as i thought,
daughter expecting mid to late December, she feels fine though.
anyhow wedding is Sept 10, don't want any family members flying back on Sept 11,2011.
so i have to decide where to stay for that week, but probably within driving distance of whatever airport they fly into.
