Frigging Credit Card Companies

I always notify my primary CC company when we are traveling out of the area more than a few hundred miles. They are protecting me and themselves from fraudulent charges. I think that is a good idea and I have no problem with that.

One time I forgot to notify them when we went to the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya in Mexico. My cc was blocked when we went to check-in. The front desk called them and I told them where we were so the block was removed. The only thing that bothered me was forgetting to notify them before we left on our trip.

Funny how some people have never done something for more than 35 years, and some have (seemingly) always done it, as if it was automatic.

Wonder how each managed to get by, or not get by.

Wonder why the ones that have done it started doing it in the first place and the ones that have never done it never thought of doing it and went that long without someone telling them they should be doing it.

I have this problem al the time and my credit card companies know I am in Mexico, really irritating, especially when I have a cart full of frozen stuff from Costco or such and I am an hour away ....and of course 800 numbers do not work in Mexico so not like I could call from store...ugh..

Wonder if the Chip and Pin the rest of the world seems to use will eliminate this type of problem. OTOH, I travel all over the states and Europe as well as Central American with no problems. I also do a fair amount of purchasing tickets, etc there as well from the US, again with no problem.

True Story

Beginning of this month, I go to Toronto. In the space of 5 days the following credit card purchases are made. A large purchase in Philadelphia for clothes for my daughter. A purchase in Wilmington for a mattress, college tuition in Brooklyn, purchases in Toronto and in Niagra Falls, Small purchases(gas etc) in NYC(my daughter) a purchase at Nordstroms in Santa Monica(my son) several purchases in Washington DC (where we moved our other daughter)a charge at JFK airport( son heading for Israel), Hershey Hotel(conference there before i left for Toronto) After several charges in Toronto, mostly restaurants, I charge $20 for ice cream at an ice cream shop. It gets flagged and my account locked. I call, speak to a nice man in India who unlocks my account. I ask him what of these many things caused my account to be locked. His reply............an RCI Exchange charge (jazzfest, New Orleans 2013 Yeah!!)
