  • Weather waivers for air

Does anyone know how close to flight date airlines usually issue weather waivers? Delta isn't doing yet for our flight Sunday though it looks pretty likely we'll need to switch. I guess I'll just call back tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the helpful link. Of course another airline is already offering it for New York, but not Delta. If we were flying south instead of north, it'd already be in place. I'll watch and wait.

sometime offers, just like product recalls, are hidden. Call and ask.

I had called before posting, but website just updated to allow waivers for flights in/out of New York.

I moved departure up to Saturday for the time being, will move again as needed. La la la

Supposed to be worst in NY on Sunday. I'll keep an eye on and we'll switch again if necessary. Delta phone queue up to 30 minutes now...

The airline will wait as long as possible before allowing cancellations or changes because they lose a lot of revenue when this occurs. They want to be absolutely sure that they have to cancel their flights.

We were caught up in that when Hurricane Rita hit the Gulf Coast in October 2005. We had purchased flights to Cancun a few months in advance that required a flight change in Houston on the day that Rita was supposed to hit there. I called the airline starting when it became apparent that Houston was going to be hit. At first they didn't offer anything. I kept calling and they then offered voluntary cancellations and finally they actually canceled all their flights. We got our airfares credited back to us. We meanwhile booked flights from Los Angeles to Cancun on another airline.

Always make sure that they refund your airfare and don't just offer travel vouchers for future travel.

Actually, Delta is offering free reticketing anytime b/t now and 9/2.Otherwise full refund. We switched our flight once so far, I may switch again. I wish we could leave tomorrow but DS' friend has to work. We are lucky that we're not traveling a fully booked route.
