  • When you forget things at resort

Over the years we have forgot a few things at resorts. Most of the stuff wasn't worth obtaining back. Once was a prescription and the resort mailed to us. But, we just returned back from a stay on Martha's Vineyard and received call from the resort. We forgot some of my daughters clothing and the night light we bring for her. Ok.....but the kicker. If you want us to mail back you will pay for shipping AND a resort handling fee of $25.

Seriously.....$25 for them to put my stuff in a box and return it!

    Is this typical??????

$25 seems excessive. The last time we forgot something the resort sent it back promptly for no charge. It was a small item so easily and cheaply mailed. What resort was it? I want to avoid them next time I go.

I know how everyone hates Westgate, but several years ago, when my niece was a small we took her to Disney World. We stayed at Westgate. She had a stuffed animal that she slept with. In the haste to get out of the unit and to the airport for an early flight the stuffed animal was left sleeping in her bed.

We realized that when we got home. I called Westgate and they had the item and promptly shipped it back to her. No cost, no worry.

Handling fee seems excessive to me... postage I can understand.

A few yrs ago my son realized he left his iPOD charger plugged in at Smugglers. We were on our way home, already about an hour from the resort.
I called, housekeeping was alerted, and it was promptly mailed back. I offered to reimburse for postage but they said not to worry.
I got the names of the people who helped us and wrote to management about their help. I was really pleased because it is a small but expensive item and they could have easily said it wasn't there...

We just had an interesting incident at WSM. We were there last weekend and I left a few items of clothing. I called the resort and spoke with housekeeping. She said she would go right now and get them and leave them at the front desk so we could pick them up on our way through yesterday for a one night stay. All well and good until . . .

We got there last night at 5pm and we were told that all items were in lost and found and only "Donna" could get them out of the room they were in. the kicker was "Donna" only works M-F 8-4!! WHAT!?

I was given a form to fill out with address, etc. And a space for my CC number. After a call by me to speak to a supervisor someone miraculously was able to find my items.

I shouldn't have to raise my blood pressure to get a small task done.

Yesterday we left the Mt Airy casino in the Poconos after a 4 night stay.we headed for home instead of going to upstate NY because we had 5 days of pouring rain.
We got 1 1/2 hrs away when my cell phone rang. It was the security desk telling me that we forgot to empty our in room safe and they had the contents including an envelope with a substantial Amt of cash. We turned around and went back for it. I'm going to write a note to housekeeping to thank the person who cleaned our room. We also gave the security person mony to give to her.

We left middle son's favorite small blanket at Fairfield (at the time) Alexandria a few years ago. If I remember correctly, they said they would charge us $4.95 to mail it back, but never did.

We recently left an item at the DVC AKL and did not get it back. It's a silly thing, but I was sad to lose it. We put our favorite blue ice for the cooler that is shaped to put cans on both sides. This was a really old one and they don't make them like this any more. The new ones are very thin and not nearly as good. It had travelled the world with us, but we left it in the fridge in the studio unit where we stayed one night before moving to the Wilderness Lodge. I didn't realize it until the following morning when I started packing the cooler for a day in the parks. I called immediately and left a message, then called again later in the week when I got no response. Before our visit ended, we were in the area and even stopped by. A super nice manager went and looked herself in the room, but it was gone. Either housekeeping threw it out (or kept it) or the next guest got a bonus. The new ones are just a few bucks, but I want my old, heavy duty one back.

Usually we are very good about clearing a room. (I found my son's computer cable lock still attached to the table in his bedroom when we started to leave the Wilderness Lodge.) I had looked in the AKL fridge, but never even thought to look in the tiny little freezer compartment.

Once, right after Christmas, we found a brand new camera someone had forgotten, along with several items of clothing. I wondered what housekeeping was doing...but we brought the stuff in for return to the owners, who were extremely grateful. We've found things at other resorts too.

We were recently at a Timeshare in FL, and forgot a few chairs that we left on the balcony. They just asked that we purchase the shipping, but no extra fee for them dealing with it. I think this is fair because they were rather large, and needed special shipping. I was impressed that they called. Many times, they will just keep, dispose or sell things they find. At least this has been my experience!

I left my IPOD nano, they took my credit card information and fed exed it to me, but I never received a charge for it. That was Weston resort Bonaventure. Very nice and helpful.
At another resort, I called because my husband lost his hearing aid, the box it was in and all the associated stuff. they claimed they didn't have it but they had our two beach towels. they said they had our address and would ship it, but i didn't receive it. then I got a call from someone who received our towels. i though he lived down the street and it was delivered to the wrong house, but he lived in South Carolina and been there only on sunday night. he was supposed to forward to me, but a month went by andno towels and we were heading north for the summer. The phone rang the night before we left and it was the guy asking for our address again. I had the beach towels shipped to our northern address, were we don't have a beach. But it was pretty nice of the guy to send us our towels.

A few yrs ago my son went to the Dominican republic for business. When he arrived at the airport to fly home, he remembered he left his blackberry charging on the bedside table. he called the resort and asked if his room had been made up yet. They said yes. He told them where he left his blackberry and "no one found anything,"

                        Where the customer service?

It seems that resort just doesn't understand basic customer service. They had a chance to provide a nice simple service to you for free that would have left you with a warm fuzzy and perhaps brought you back to the resort later on, but instead they stuck it to you to make a few extra bucks. Come on!
