What to do with the CATS!!!!

We are leaving in a few days and for some reason my two cats have started to fight. One constantly going after the other. We have had them for 2 years and have never had this problem before. End result is the one that is getting picked on is starting to urinate around the house!!!

We typically have a neighborhood kid come in and feed them while we are gone. But, I'm afraid to come home to a urine all over the house or the picked on one being tramatized after being locked up in the house with the bossy cat right now.

The bossy one is even brining this outside.....if he sees her in the yard he chases her into the woods. I just don't get it.....he typically is a lazy, laid back kind of cat. All of a sudden he is very aggressive.

So....what do you do with your cats while away?

Has there has been a change in the pecking order? The urinating
cat is reacting to the bossy cat. Is there a big difference in age? Same sex ?
I always board my cats. They have a cat section far removed from the dogs.

One of my mom's cats attacks the other when he sees cats outside in "his" territory. He's actually not even allowed outside, but he still can't stand to see other cats around. He'll snarl and growl at the cat outside, then look for his housemate so he can beat her up, instead. So your suddenly aggressive cat may be reacting to something totally outside of the two cats' relationship.

It may be that, with policing, you can settle the two cats down so they're cool with each other again, but that isn't going to happen before you leave, so I'd just separate them for now. We have a cat who was really aggressive when we got her (we brought her in partly because she was clearly an indoor cat who'd been dumped just as winter was hitting good -- but mostly because she was bullying our outdoor cats ), and we keep her in a room by herself when we're gone. Which she's okay with for a few days, but if we're going to be gone over a week she starts bullying the cat sitter. So we're setting her up with a whole different sitter in a whole different house next time around.

I have two brother cats and they go through spells where they will fight. One will pick on the other for no apparent reason and it is awful. I just try to seperate them and I even swat the offender on the bottom. After a few days all is well again and they are eating and sleeping together. Not sure what gets into them at times. Oh yeah my cats are 4 1/2 years old and like I said from time to time we go through this.

My brother used to spray the offender with a water bottle. Cat hated it and would stop or run away. But that seems to be a temporary fix...

If you want peace of mind, put at least one of them in the kennel and let your neighborhood kid take care of the other. If you can afford it, I would put them both in the kennel as they will keep them together or separate them if they fight.

Your one cat may no longer fight when he comes home and the other one may no longer pee in the house after their kennel visit.

Are the cats neutered and spayed? If not if the female is going into heat or another cat nearby that my be the problem. Our cats always fight but nothing serious.
