  • What are the most ridiculous things you were told in a TS presentation?

I thought we could all enjoy reading about some of the more ridiculous things TS salespeople have said.

I keep seeing studios at Gaslamp in San Diego for rent for under $500/week. Whenever I see that, I have a flashback to the time I went to a presentation there, when they first started selling those.

The <woman> said that everyone in the world wants to stay in San Diego and we could easily rent our week out for $500. per NIGHT.

No, we didn't buy and she turned into a scary evil <w>itch when we were leaving.

I hate going to the TS/BS Presentation.
Every time we go, they tell us that we are not gold, that we are silver.
I have my card that says we are gold. My points package shows we are gold, but they tell us we are not. I had one guy walk away from us to print more of the account info. We left at 10 minutes when he had not returned and had left us alone.

That is the only thing that sticks with me as they tell me that time after time.

If you are gold, it's time we sell you, before it goes back down.

The most honest thing we were told, at our last, and last, tour, was, "I don't have anything better to offer you than what you already are doing. Please sit here another 30 minutes, have some more breakfast, then go get you Disney tickets. I'm going outside to grab a smoke."

Two hours later we were outta there.

If you buy ths timeshare and keep it for five years I can promise you that you can sell it for 5-6 times what you paid for it, no problem. After paying maintenance for 10 years, they will go no higher. You will get special buy-in status. ( 1982 )

I still gasp at the price of $43,000 for one week at the Westgate Towers Villas in Orlando. Not that I would have wanted it at any price, but I really thought it would be in the sub-$20K range.

Yes, $500/ nt is a way over the top. In fact you could stay there for $149/ nt without owning a timeshare. That was the rate to the general public.

We went to the sales presentation at Gaslamp Plaza Suites many years ago when the resort first opened. Actually the presentation was very low key with no pressure nor lies whatsoever. Quite a contrast from the one we had attended in Puerto Vallarta where everything was a lie, very high pressure and very rude.

We lived less than an hour away from the Gaslamp Plaza Suites.

We have owned at Gaslamp Plaza Suites since that day it opened and have been very happy with it. We use it for bonus time on our frequent getaways to play tourist in San Diego. We have been exchanging it with SFX for the past 14 years.

We made a vow many years ago to never attend a T/S sales presentation again regardless of what they offer. There is just nothing they can offer that is worth wasting our time.

We bought a 100,000+ RCI points resort on EBay for less than $1,000 a few years ago and received about 100,000 leftover points from previous years which we had to use by February or March of 2010. We own several winter weeks in Aruba and use some and rent out the rest. Since I needed to use my RCI points I booked two weeks back to back at exactly 10 months out for Aruba and rented out my own January Aruba weeks.

When we got to Aruba my wife and I wanted to see a fairly new Aruba timeshare for possible future requests. We particularly wanted to compare the 1BR to Studio to see if using less points for a studio was worth doing.

I didn't ask for the freebies just wanted to look so went to sales office and asked for tour which they denied since we already owned in Aruba. I then had someone approach me in Aruba and told me they would get me a tour plus freebies but I should not tell them I own in Aruba. Since I had friends who own and Costa Linda I was told to tell the receptionist we were staying with friends at Costa Linda. I also didn't want to get into the fact that I bought re-sale and that I own RCI points.

We gave deposit and scheduled our appointment which was very informative and we really liked the resort and saw all of their different units, studio, 1BR, 2br and 3BR penthouse.

Now came the sales presentation and the biggest lie I ever heard. They were selling only RCI points and I think they wanted aroud 25K for about 56,000 points which would get us a 1BR during winter in Aruba. I told him it was way to high for 56,000 points and said I heard you could buy a lot more RCI points for a lot less money without going into further details. So here comes the big lie. But you are not getting "Aruba RCI points".

I told him there was no such thing as "Aruba RCI points" and points are points and as long as I had at least 56,000 RCI points I would be able to trade into any RCI points resort based on availability. He then laughed at me and got his manager over who confirmed his BS and told me without Aruba RCI points I could never get to Aruba during prime time winter months.

My wife could not believe that I contained myself and thought for sure I would
laugh out loud at the two clowns and shout out that I actually had been able to trade into Aruba for two back to back weeks with my crappy Vegas RCI points. We politely said thanks but no thanks and I now insisted on my free dinner certificates just because they were such asses.

Probably 8 years ago at Polo Towers, Las Vegas. Upon showing us one bedroom, told us we could rent it to friends for at least $3000 week... I said my friends would rather stay at Bellagio for less than that... she said whoa, wait til they see what they have to pay for coffee in the morning... and I told her it would still be way less than $3000... (I knew there was no way to rent it for what she was saying, just wanted to hear her responses, I'll bet there were more than a few who believed her...).

I just thought of another one.

My husband and I walked up to the information desk for Disney Vacation Club and I asked what it was.

I was told, "It's 50 years of vacations for $17,000."

That was the bottom of the buy in cost at the time. The way he said it, though, had my husband thinking it was a one time fee and that it would include park admission.
