Disney World is a hugely popular Christmas destination. While I confess I'd like to see all the WDW holiday decorations and stuff sometime, Disney is not where I want to spend Christmas day. Or week, for that matter. Even if the crowds weren't a factor, I'd rather spend Christmas more quietly. But I am confused by movies that open Christmas day, too, so maybe my Christmas style is odd.

If I had to choose some place other than home, I would pick New York City hands down. None of the other places in the various lists interest me in the least. Of course the weather would be a big deterrent to visiting NYC.

To me, there is nothing better than being at home for Christmas with all the family, especially the grandkids. We will have 9 of us staying at our home for the Christmas week.

I don't know if it's already on one of those lists, but I've always thought I'd like to spend time during Christmas in Yosemite for the Bracebridge dinner at the Ahwahnee.

Angela, Thanks for putting together this list - I was pleasantly surprised to see that I have visited many of the places on the list.

Having recently spent time in NYC with all the crowds and beautiful decorations and store windows - it was very special.

WDW at Christmas time is just spectacular - I have taken a "Behind the Scene" tour where u visit the various parks before opening and actually go to the workshop where everything is created and then stored - it is an unbelievable operation.

I am thinking of doing Paris in early December in a few years just to see it decorated for Christmas and go to the markets.
I am hoping to spend a few days there and then take the fast speed bullet train to Barcelona (not sure when this will be completed) to see that decked out as well.....
          Wanna come?

Edit - saw this from a 2007 post on trip advisor "There is a day train (13h24) from Gare de Lyon to Barcelona" - way took long - I will try to find info on the bullet train - we saw the construction when we were traveling near Barcelona to Girona in Sept 2010.

          http://www.railbookers.com/blog/2011...aris-by-train/

"There is an intermediate stop at Girona where there is very clear evidence of the work underway to complete the high speed standard gauge line linking Barcelona and Figueres. All along the ride there were glimpses of the new line which thankfully looks like it will not be in many tunnels thus allowing great views. This new line is due to open in 2012. On arrival at Figueres Vilafant Station, which is located some 5 km’s out of town and is linked to the town by a connecting bus service, the Duplex TGV (a double decker) for Paris was sitting on the adjacent platform making for a very easy interchange.

Departure from Figueres was spot on time and the train accelerated immediately to a high speed as we were on the completed part of the new line linking Perpignan and Barcelona. Sitting upstairs at a table for 2 on a Duplex TGV is definitely one of the more civilised ways to travel! The train had recently been refurbished and was in an excellent condition.

The 1st class carriages are traditionally done with comfortable reclining seats and the 2nd class has had a total makeover making a very nice product feeling light, airy and spacious. The bar / buffet has also been refurbished unfortunately the quality of the goods they sell has not. On board catering really is SNCF’s bĂȘte noir! SNCF tip always buy provision for an onboard picnic, which I had forgotten to do so had to splash out on some expensive food with basic quality."

WDW Is really beautiful during the holiday season, and definitely worth seeing. I agree that Christmas day or week is way too crowded! A nice quite week between T'Giving & the Christmas is perfect!

That sounds like so much fun! I'd love to see Paris decked out for the holidays....Barcelona, too! I also wouldn't mind seeing London, Prague, Austria.....Lol.

BTW, I think it still takes you 8 hrs to get from Paris to Barcelona on the fast train, and it's expensive. Maybe a cheap airline would be a better choice
