Definitely interesting! I would have no idea what to do if my hotel was burning down, but at least now I'll be more prepared.

I was in a hotel fire in Toronto, about 20 years ago. Luckily, I just happened to rememeber seeing the exit sign the night before. My travel companions (2 women; teachers) would not get out of bed when the alarms went off. The school where they taught, alarms went off many times a week, and they more or less were conditioned to ignore it...(very scary in itself) I opened the door to smoke. We made it to the exit, but only because I remembered seeing it, visibility was poor. Walked down the stairs (yes, holding on to railing while people above tried to shove and claw their way in front of anyone ahead of them). We were on the 16th floor, the fire on the 13th. Had to stand out in the street in PJ's for several hours, but we were safe.
Now I always make sure I know where the exit is... that was WAY too close for comfort...
