  • Louisiana Girl needs icy weather advice!

Hey, we are going to Virginia to the Mansunutten resort area. I do not know if I need snow chains or not. Can anyone withexperience look at the weather forcast and give me advice? Thanks!

without checking the weather forecast, I'd be shocked if you'd be lucky enough to need snow chains in Virginia, ever.

When are you going? Temps for the next days show mid-to-high 40's during the day.

Shouldn't be a problem. Check the forecast before you leave for anything extremely unusual.

Leave the chains behind and enjoy the trip!

But...don't people ski in the mountains there? Maybe you do need chains. Or snow tires at least.

Decent tread on all purpose tires should be fine in most cases.

Just came home on Sunday. As of Sunday, no natural snow at Massanutten on the ground. About 60%-70% of the mountain was open for skiing and 8 lanes on the snow tubing due to snow makers. We didn't ski but the tubing was fun. People were golfing. It was a little muddy at the bottom of the tubing hill. Unless a BIG storm is predicted, I couldn't imagine needing chains. Tires with good treads would be fine even if it snows next week.

Most of the snow is manmachine made.
