  • Single Guy Vacation ~ Thanksgiving

So Thanksgiving is ALWAYS a struggle to get any time at all with my daughter from the ex, some years it seems i only get her for half a dinner, enough time for the food to be served but not enough time to eat others its just for a few minutes during desert....

So i figure, why not make this easier for everyone and start an Annual "Leave me alone i'm traveling by my self" trip during Thanksgiving every year

So if you were single a middle aged guy(31) like me who enjoys his drinks, but because of Child support doesn't have a HUGE sum of money...Where would you go?

Mexico - Cancun comes to mind, nice resort, inexpensive food and drink, lots of mixed groups - families and singles. Fun night life, easy to reach by air from the Northeast.

I would second the Mexico suggestion. But if you want to stay in the states, Las Vegas is alway fun. Perhaps New Orlean or South Beach (although those places might be a bit more expensive).

        I was considering this place...

GRAND PALLADIUM JAMAICA RESORT & SPA (#C719) on RCI it has the week available, but i'm not that well scripted with Airfare costs...it looks to be about $650 just to fly

What I was thinking! Ride, oh Ride, I have shoes older than you...jk :~)

Cancun could be a good T'giving get away...but the air my be killer. If you do want South Beach, let me know, I have "peeps" there (some as young as 26) that could help you not be "alone" and show you around the nightlife.

You are going to pay a LOT to fly to the Caribbean T-giving week.
I also assume this is an all inclusive - check carefully, the fees can be high.

Yah thats my biggest fear about flying on a holiday week...the costs of the flight....I beyond Priceline and Travelocity, i have no idea how to find cheap flights to Sangster International (MBJ) from NY

With the all inclusive things...Atleast according to RCI, this is one of the cheaper places...

                Mandatory All Inclusive Program.
Fees are per person, per night in double occupancy (2 Adults) only.
                Hotel units: 2012 Fees-Apr09-Dec21 US $103.33.
                1 & 2 Bedroom units: 2012 Fees-Apr09-Dec21 US $113.83.

Single Occupancy (1 Adult traveling) Supplement of 50% to all inclusive fee.

So i'm hoping RCI is accurate and its about $60 a day for All inclusive

It might be cheaper to buy a vacation from consolidators like Liberty Travel. Oh, I also have shoes older than you.

How do you get $60, it reads to me for a hotel unit as $103.33 plus $51.67 (50% supplement) for a total of $155/day.

                      Doh! Math fail!

I'm going to have to drink ALOT to make up for that extra $100!

                        What about a cruise?
Lots of single women do cruises but not alot of single men so you'd have good odds. I have seen cruises for $550 for the week leaving from Ft. Lauderdale in Thanksgiving and with the Costa cruise fiasco then it's probably going to be even cheaper this year.

If not, how about the Dominican Republic. Lots of hot babes in the DR and the alcohol is cheap. Think $3 for a bottle of good Dominican Rum Macoris, my favorite. There are cheap packages to Punta Cana with MK Tours which is probably cheaper than trying to do a TS exchange and fly there to an all inclusive TS.

Jamaica can have iffy weather at that time of year. We always traveled during the week before or the week after because if you don't hit Thanksgiving and travel in November you can get really cheap flights and specials at resorts. We had 5 years of perfect weather. One time a New Zealand couple said that they had been at the resort and that day (their last-our first) was the first really sunny day. Other than choppy water that sometimes canceled the catamaran rides everything was great. Then we had 2 years of colder weather. Much nicer than at home but the pools aren't heated and were too cold unless they had direct sun for most of the day. Rainy and cool is ok for one afternoon but when it is that way for half the week it gets disappointing.

I like to drink, alot....i went on a cruise with one of my ex's, just the drink bill hit $1500 by the time the cruise was over...now, there are SOME cruises that include alcohol packages, but they seem to be few and far in between

Dominican Republic is definately an option i'm willing to explore....it was originally ruled out because of the costs of flights ($600+ to the DR, $400+ to Jamaica) BUT i think that can be fixed with a good tour/travel agent/package discount

You shouldn't have to go far to find some fun. All the bars and clubs fill up on Thanksgiving night and the nights right after.
