  • AA 30% bonus offer up to 40K miles plus 15% discount.

Anybody taking advantage of this mileage sale?https://buy.points.com/PointsPartner...DE=AASoloApr12

Looks like you can buy up to 40K miles for $935 plus tax and $30 service fee so around $1035. They then will give you 12K as bonus miles in 6 weeks.
Sounds like a decent deal unless they're planning a devaluation.
    About 2 cents a mile.
    I'm thinking about it.

If you think about it, Using those miles which is never easy. I rather pay $300 for a domestic flight. If the airlines want to sell miles they should make it so the miles are worth it.

Yeah probably doesn't make much sense for domestic but I was pricing airfare to Hawaii and it looks as though I'd be paying $1200-$1300 just for coach. With this offer at least I could get halfway in Business Class so thinking that for trips like that it might make sense. The Flyertalkers are kind of divided on it thinking that AA might be getting ready to devalue points.

I did notice that effective yesterday you get free bags with the AA Platinum Mastercard so I guess I'll keep it for that alone. So many rules with these mileage programs it's almost as bad as owning a TS.

With AA in bankruptcy, I would be expecting them to devalue the points at some stage, a lot of the others have.

One of their better deals is the 40K to Europe in low season if you can get availability, especially if you are on the west coast.

I will only buy points if I plan to book within the next 1-2 months and if I can see availability for the award and the award makes financial sense. Ideally I would buy a few days before i am booking the award so

Decided to pass for now since I've still got about 60K miles left.
I seem to rack them up pretty quickly with the credit card.
Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I have loads of FF miles from work and personal travel but they have far more aggressive expiration. I am finding I prefer my hotel points these days especially SPG where I can transfer to airline miles if needed.
