Traveling to Atlantic City

In October, I am attending a convention in Atlantic City. Looking at a map, it appears to me that Philadelphia is the closest city to fly into. Interestingly, the fares to Newark NJ are cheaper.

If you were flying from Houston, where would you fly into? Philadelphia, Newark, somewhere else? Also, how long is the drive from those cities?

Looks like PHL is much closer than EWR.......ACY is the closest airport, but I'm not sure what options, if any, that would give you.

I'm thinking an hourish from PHL to Atlantic City, and 1 1/2 - 2 hrs from EWR, depending on traffic.

If you can't fly into AC (very small airport), I would definitely choose Philly over Newark for distance reasons. I'm not familiar with the Philly airport, but I can't imagine it's as congested as Newark, either (don't hold me to that, though, please).

Spirit is the only airline flying to ACY that I know of and I would never pay their baggage fees. It is definitely a shorter ride from Philly but if you land at rush hour you will be in line to get over the Walt Whitman bridge just like all of the NJ commuters. You would be getting on right at the base of the bridge so it shouldn't be too bad. Air fare only gets realistic at around 4 months out, assuming it will ever BE realistic. Kayak will email you prices every day so that you will know a good deal when one pops up.

I vote for Philly as well - just try to get in by 2ish to avoid rush hour.
October is a nice time to be in AC -there are many nice restaurants in the area and if u have a car, some nice places to drive to to kill a few hours.
Unfortunately there are some not so nice areas but these can be easily avoided as well.

Are there toll roads from Philly to Atlantic City? I live in an area of the country where there are minimal toll roads. Do rental cars come with an ez tag or something similar to pay tolls?

Just trying to make sure I don't get caught without cash for driving.

What is the date your going to AC Maybe I can meet you there. I would go to Philly just so you can get a Philly Cheese steak also there are limo services you can use or maybe bus it from there. BTW I should be able to get you into the Flagship cheap at that time.

If you don't want to drive, you can take the commuter rail train to Atlantic City. Believe you can catch it at the airport, if not at main train station in Philly.

The AC Expressway does have a couple of small tolls and the bridge to NJ was $4 when I was there last. The toll takers don't really like to take Texas money, especially if it was anywhere near Dallas at any point, but they will take it if you hide your accent.

If I fly into Newark, maybe I can stay a day in the NJ/Ny area and meet up with some of you folks. I would love that!
