Hurricane - Travel Insurance

How does travel insurance work with Hurricanes? If you cancel at the last minute if there is a warning does it cover it? Starting to look at exchange options in the summer in the Carribbean and trying to figure out what would be covered and what wouldn't be covered and the timing.

Hurricanes don't really need special travel insurance because the airlines should probably don't fly there.
