  • Best airline for NYC/London?

We have AA miles, but the extra fees are ridiculous. If price were equal, which airline would you recommend for comfort (assuming coach) and general civility? I heard someone mention an airline with some sort of upstairs lounge and reclining seats, is that first class?

That's funny...we are using AA miles to fly from NYC to London and the fees were only $25/ticket. Now on BA (which we are flying home, only to use up the miles) the fees are awful, and the same goes if you use AA miles to fly BA. If you actually fly on AA metal, the fees should be okay!

I think it's Virgin Atlantic that has the upstairs.

Does Cathay Pacific go from New York to London? I flew them once from New York to Hong Kong, and they made a 16-hour flight amazingly pleasant.

I put tickets on hold the other day using AA FF miles. One way was on BA and one way AA
The fees were $409 per ticket for this August.

My son recently flew Virgin and said how nice it was.

Ok, I will look at Virgin. The FF tix for our flights had fees of $860 PER PERSON on AA. I didn't check the metal, will look at that again. The fact that AA is offering other airlines through its portal explains why so many flights came up. Does anyone know what kind of plane has the upstairs on VA?

there was a deal last month where you got upgraded to upper class from a first class ticket. If available there were tickets in the low $1000 high $900 range. Now this may have been OW but still, This was the lowest I have ever seen it for. If you ever had the pleasure of upper class on Virgin you know what the best is. Norm for upper class from my understanding during peak times is about $7000 OW

When you say fees, do you mean taxes?

BA charges a whole bunch of fuel surcharges and if it is 840pp, likely BA. They do 300RT fares then wack you for fuel surchases, like Air Canada.

See if you can book using just AA both ways....I'll bet your fees will substantially decrease!

That's the answer. Anything associated TATL with BA racks up enormous fees. Even if you actually fly on a AA airplane under a BA code share, you get whacked.

Same flights booked as AA can be as much as $600 or more cheaper than the same exact flights booked under a BA number, even though it is the same airplane both times.

About the only go thing I have found about BA is the 50000 points I got with their Credit card which is excellent for short haul AA flights in the USA. 50000 can get me about 5 round trips on short haul AA routes.

                          Cheers
