Has anyone heard from our NJ members?

The problem is not so much no power as being completely out of touch with what is going on around you. Just now looking at some of the devastation and realizing just how lucky a lot of us were. 30 minutes south of me is the beginning of the war zone.

                New York Aquarium May Evacuate:

Hurricane Sandy Power Outage Threatens Coney Island Institution

The New York Aquarium in Coney Island faces the threat of having to evacuate nearly 12000 water dependent animals if power is not restored. Without full power, NY aquarium considers evacuation!

The NY Aquarium is closed due to storm and we'll keep you posted on reopening.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

                    Welcome back Angela.

I did hear from Irene yesterday. Hanging in there. Now has power.

LIPA says 205K still without power. Down from over a million on Long Island.

                      Thanks Pat!

Lots of people in my area are still without power, and I'm worried that the upcoming Noreaster is going to cause additional havoc. Besides the horrible inconvenience, its just too cold to be without power. The last couple of nights have been freezing, and its getting colder. Many here with generators can't even get gas for them. Its crazy! Sigh.

I'm just hoping that I don't lose power, again......

                      • Down to 195K as of 8 am.

Yes, many are fearful they will go out again with the next storm.
The upside is that all the trees have fallen down ALREADY so there doesn't seem as if there is much left to knock down the wires....be safe.

                        • Any section of this forum a long(ish) time member can ask for starpoints or other hotel stay 'points'? My best friend had his home basicly washed away and him and his wife and three kids have been sleeping in a minivan for a week because they have no where else to go...With him owning a 'pool service' company he has no money coming in right now...I'm doing everything i can, giving them my daughters old clothes and coats(they literally lost everything)but i live in what amounts to a studio apartment, so i can't host 5 guests

Thank you tony! This family has gone through so much lately. They are the family I was talking about awhile ago who's son was in newsday, he's fighting lukemia. The clean up for them is going to be so much harder then others. Even the littlest bit of mold and he can get really sick again

                              • I don't have hotel points but I do have TPU's if they can find a place to stay. They would have to pay the exchange/GC since I'm not in a position to do that. Doesn't their homeowners insurance cover alternate living expenses?
