New French air ticket tax
France has just added another air ticket tax, for international flights, of up to 40 euros, to pay for overseas social programs. If your flight ends or originates in France or if you stop over there for more than 12 hours, you get zapped with the tax.
Air ticket taxes are outrageous to begin with before this one. I recently priced a ticket to Nassau and almost half of the cost was tax.
With the added costs for fuel surcharges and the like, this one is really unjustified. Maybe what they really need is a 100% tax on the incomes of stupid French politicians.
I just got back from France, but it is now low on my list of places to go. I used to like to do overnights in Paris on the way back from eastern Europe.
Now, I'll look more to Rome or Amsterdam for that. And Air France has gone almost to the bottom (just above Continental) of my choice of SkyTeam carriers.
