It has always been assumed that the courts would protect airlines assertions that they could change their ff programs any time they wanted, however they wanted.
That might be about to change.
In a pending lawsuit challenging UA's anti-customer changes to its million miler program, which is part of its ff program, the federal court has denied UA's motion to dismiss and allowed the case to go forward on a breach of contract claim by an ff member against UA.
