It's just so annoying. I hate that feeling that I might not have gotten the best possible deal!

I have been booking and re-booking for my trip to Orlando next month. It started crazy, over $400 for a week. Now I am confirmed through Costco for $132 for 9 days.

Lawren, the price on Hawaiian for 2 SAN-LIH is $1374 for September 14-21! Yikes! I don't understand why these dates are so expensive.

I have not been there either and DH really is not very interested due to flight time....

If I missed it, sorry, but, what exactly do you need?

Where, pick-up and drop-off dates and times.

I, too, am searching for an August one, and the rates have not lowered yet.

I don't use any of the sites you mentioned.

Generally, a mid-size seems to be running about $28/day, plus fees.

Of course, I get emails from the sites I use every day, telling me they just did one for $13/day.

I don't blame you. Coming from Calfornia it was a "quick" 5 hour direct flight. Coming from the east coast it's a long flight(s). It's the same reason we never vacation on any of the resorts off the east coast.

Yes, it can certainly be a looooong trip. Which is why most east coasters going to Hawaii try and go for two weeks.

Yup, DH won't go for just one week - still takes up most of two days in flight time and we fly non-stop. You need more than five days

Oh yeah. We decided years ago that one week, even coming from the west coast, wasn't enough. This summer we're going for three weeks (gotta love retirement). Of course this summer we're having to fly longer, and with a stop. The downside of moving to Santa Fe.

I'm on Maui now. Our car rental rates started from over $300 a week in Jan for a mid size to now around $160 for a full size. I kept checking and the lowest rate was from a reservation made a week ago.

For the last four months I have been checking Hotwire and Priceline for a Florida car for DW and her entourage for two weeks from now. They have been very stubborn, not feeling my pain.

Yesterday I got an email from Hotwire saying an Economy was now $22.75/day. I have been bidding $19.

I opened it up and the price is $28.95/day, higher than it has been.

                          What?

Try Thrifty. Yesterday they had a full size in Orlando for than $170/week full size. Price usually gets lower as the date approaches (up to a week ahead.)

Price just dropped--Costco Travel had a midsize at Budget for $139! Yay! Now off to cancel my other "placeholder" reservations.

If your pickup is just a few hours late due to flight times, and your flights are in your reservation, they should hold the car for you, but I would still call them first.
Just an FYI, you can't call directly to the Thrifty you are renting from. The only number available is the national call center and they will rebook you at the current rate.
