Recently upgraded to Platinum through II and got his as part of the upgrade. Are there any real benefits with this? I mean, $27 every time I want to use a lounge seems a little extreme. That on top of the $100 annual membership fee, makes me wonder what exactly this entails. If I don't spend the per use fee each time, the membership seems kind of redundant and I won't bother signing up for it. Anybody here actually use it? Is it worth it when you do? Seems like a bit of a cash grab to me for the average user. Especially when I have to pay for myself, and my companion to be able to utilize it.

So you don't actually have to have a membership? Tha would make this part of the Platinum Membership worthless. I suspect the companion fare for me as well will be a waste since it doesn't look like it is good for Canadian airports. I'll hop over to eBay to see what I can find. Thanks for that suggestion.

I have six United lounge passes for trips this summer. I also have the United credit card. The four passes I bought on eBay look exactly like the two passes that United sent me for taking the credit card, so I think I'll just need to hand in the passes and maybe show my United credit card. I'm traveling at the end of the month, so I'll let you know how it goes!

I have free lounge access on international flights (all segments) as an AA Plat, and that includes partner lounges like BA's wonderful Galleries lounges, and that is what I usually use, but I also have an Amex that as one of its benefits gets me into Delta lounges for $25, and that has occaisionally come in handy. My corporate Diners Club card gets me free access to lots of independent lounges, some in unusual places, like Cluj, Romania, the Isle of Man, and Guernsey. All include a travel companion. With some lounge arrangements, you have to actually be flying on the airline, or one of their partners, of the lounge you are using.
Most airlines will sell a one time lounge pass to anyone for $50, so $27 is a bit more than half price.
