I'll be traveling this week to Buffalo, NY, Toledo & Akron, Ohio. I know somewhat about the Buffalo area but didn't find any info on Toledo. Do you have any recommendations as to what to see there? I'll be traveling with my husband and 8 children (2 adults 6 minors). TIA!

Without a doubt my favorite place in Akron is Stan Hywet Hall. It is a spectacular home styled after an english manor. It was built by the founder of Goodyear Tire. The mansion and gardens are now maintained by a foundation and open for tours year round.

Also, If you remember Corporal Klinger from M*A*S*H, his favorite place for a spicy hot dog, and an ice cold Stroh's Bohemian was Tony Paco's. The place still exists, and is quite an experience. The walls are covered with autographed hot dog buns (yes, I said hot dog buns) signed by everyone from Dwight Eisenhower to Led Zeppelin.

Akron - Canton is only 20 miles down the road, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Canton.
Toledo - Toledo has an excellent zoo; admission is $10 for adults (12 and older), $7 for children (2 to 11 years old), and free for children 2 and under. Parking is $5 per vehicle.
Toledo - Ft Meigs in Perrysburg, the southern suburb of Toledo, is a replica of the fort that was on this site during the War of 1812. It was attacked twice by British and Canadian troops, assisted by their Indian allies. It is operated by the Ohio Historical Society; admission is $7 for adults, $3 for students, and free for children 5 and under. Parking is free. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

We were able to spend an hour and 45 min. walking around and didn't break a thing! - did get spoken to about running in the "great Gallery"!!
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. It is a fine museum and all my children found something to enjoy there.May God bless your day! --- Debbie in "usually" sunny Florida <><

COSI Toledo - Science Center for children/adults
Just thought I'd share with anyone interested that the Toledo COSI/Science Center is a <<wonderful>> place to go with your family.
We have membership in our own science center (Brevard, FL) and were able to get in free with the reciprocal admission which made it even better. My children did not want to leave and wanted to go back the next day!! If you're in the area check it out!May God bless your day! --- Debbie in "usually" sunny Florida <><

Glad you found COSI; my kids enjoyed it too!
The Toledo Mud Hens is a AAA farm team for the Detroit Tigers and they have a great team.
Although not necessarily near Akron, the Ohio Amish Country extends along Ohio Route 39 from Millersburg to Sugar Creek (West of I-77, South of Akron / Canton). Lots of things made out of wood and great food (try Walnut Creek Cheese for lunch and desert - kids will thank you for the ice cream). Wendell August Forge is a must see, you can check out their hand/machine made items on their web site (wendellaugust.com).
Cedar Point is in Sandusky, OH on the lake between Cleveland and Toledo. This is a fabulous amusement parks for all ages!!

GREAT park! Especially if you like coasters. I got on some with my kids and I can tell you I enjoyed them better when I was younger!
Wish we had had more days to spend there; needed 2-3 at least. AS it was we got in at 10 am and left at 10 pm - really tuckered out my kids
Thanks for the heads up!May God bless your day! --- Debbie in "usually" sunny Florida <><
