advice for friend that thinks she purchased a TS

I was talking to a friend last night when she mentioned she just realized she owned a TS. She recalls last year there was a brief conversation with a person on the phone about travel deals. But doesn't recall buying anything or has received no further info. I asked a few questions, basically she saw a $499 charge on her credit card and called to dispute/get info.

Basically, what she was told was that she owns a TS and that her weeks are building up and she should be using them. She wanted to cancel but was told not to because she could resell and could get about $7,000 for it.

Ok, so I know this isn't a legit TS purchase. I assume it one of those companies that sell cheap vacations in return for a TS tour?????

I could be wrong, anyone with info that I can pass along to her??

This is clearly some type of scam. She has already disputed with the credit card. Did they reverse the charge? How did they get her credit card number? Did she give it to them for some purpose?

Timeshare can be a great product when you buy what works for you, but being sold a pig in a poke, my guess is that whatever she ''owns'' will be far from the cream of the crop.

Absolutely go through with the credit card chargeback and let her know that if she didn't sign a contract, she is not obligated.

That's what I was thinking. How can she possibly own a timeshare based on brief telephone conversation she barely remembers? Didn't sign a contract, should not need to pay. The local Attorney General ought to be all over that.
