I suggest that you post this on the City Data Forums for NYC

    http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-york-city/

Overall, regulars there are really helpful to people traveling to NYC. You will also find TONS of threads asking similar questions to yours. (E.g. Things to do)

My only thought is that I hate driving in to Manhattan and dealing with parking and don't think it's a good idea unless you're familiar with NYC. It looks like your hotel is not close to the subway .7 miles. I personally would walk to the 7 train, but I'm 6'4" guy and really not sure about that neighborhood for a family. Even if the .7 mile walk isn't possible, I would take a bus to the 7 train..... The MTA has mapping for public transportation as does google maps.

Enjoy your vacation! NYC is fun

This hotel is offering free shuttle service...I think to the # 7 line.

The Fairfield Inn New York Long Island/Manhattan View hotel pampers guests with free shuttle service to and from the local subway station for quick and convenient transportation into Midtown Manhattan and to local restaurants and night life.
In the daytime, Mass Transit would be the best way to get in/out of the city from LIC, imo. Parking is very expensive, and traffic can be horrendous at times.

After rush hour, driving in is much more doable, and may be preferable. Icon offers discounts at various locations......

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I heard it's supposed to be in the high 40's in NYC next week. They can go online and get tickets to the World Trade Memorial. When I went there it was 12 degrees. It will be much nicer in the warmer weather!
