Many on FlyerTalk beleive that Delta has further ruined what was already a bad program, I hope AA does not do something similar, as it is the only decent program out there these days, but with the US management now in control, and their consumer unfriendly history, I suspect they will..

As a Plat. FF who normally buys premium fares on Delta I think this a great move. For spending $1000 on Delta I would earn 9000 miles. At 1cent in value(minimum) this is like a 9 percent discount. The more I spend the more I get. I can usually fly first from LAX to MSP for less than $1000 which under the current system would be about half of 9000 miles.

FlyerTalk is dominated by people who fly on their employers dime for business and those that run around doing mileage runs. A lot of travelers don't even have a frequent flyer account.

As with many changes, there are both winners and losers. If you mainly fly high dollar / short to medium distances flights, you will come out ahead, For most others, you will not.

Like many flyers, I am a mixed fare flyer, with my business travel usually on higher fares, but often not quite the highest, since those tickets are often bought close to time of travel and our travel policy requires refundable tickets, but usually not business class. My personal travel is at the lowest price I can find. Most of my travel, business and personal, is international.

Delta is noted for years for trying to design ff program changes around customers who fly almost entirely the same types of flights, and ignores the biggest group out there, the mixed fare traveller.
