we are heading out on Thursday am and we can go 75 to 24 thru georgia to tennessee, or we can go 75 to 10 and go up thru alabama to nashville. we are concerned about the storms, and if we have to we will wait til Friday morning. we are having trouble figuring out the weather patterns for days in advance. It takes us 4 to 5 hours to get to I10 in Florida, and the route thru Alabama is a longer route, but we think Georgia is going to have storms all Thursday. Any advice from those that live in the mentioned areas.

We have been having what they will be having, and we have had no problems driving in it.
DW hates the Dothan/Birmingham route.
All alternatives seem like they take forever, but when we do it the good news is that we will not be doing it again for awhile . . . not like going for a week or two.
DW said she/we would never drive straight through, never, never, ever again. Then she did coming north last month. For us the key is to start early, about 3 AM, and just do it. It takes until about 11 PM.
I worked with a guy from Chicago at the golf course in FL a couple years, you know the one, and I was surprised that he had about the same drive to Chicago, but on better roads all the way, than we do.
Your drive is a little longer, 22 hours and 6 minutes through Atlanta and 23 hours 27 minutes through Birmingham. Ours is 18 hours 57 minutes, but takes 20 hours.
Atlanta doesn't bother us like it used to, but we do manage the time of day we hit it. It's nice that they have lane markings in addition to the overhead signs, which can be confusing. Nashville is a bitch, too, but it's only 15 minutes if you take Briley Parkway instead of the interstate through town.Last edited by JLB; 05-14-2014, 02:16 PM.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

On the way down last December, we did not get that 3 AM start. I drove as far as a gas station some place north of Tampa at dark-thirty. My co-pilot woke up while we were there. I said something like, "If you want, you can drive the rest of the way, I really don't care. But, consider me no longer a part of this effort."
She got us there.
Then, I came back north straight through, by myself, and she did, too.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

this is trip from hell
today I saw two different cars in flames, the second one the family was walking away from the car with a baby in a car seat. thank goodness they were able to get out in time. we had to drive two extra hours to find a hotel room, graduation in bowling green, and continued problems in every town til we got to Louisville.

It's in the 60's in Orlando and here in Miami it's 70 right now.
It's been raining on and off all week but today was nicer.
Stay safe out there Pat.
