  • Vancouver BC, Disney Alaska cruise...

    Hello fellow travelers!

We are taking our son and family on a Disney Alaska cruise this August. Flying in 2 days before and trying to figure the logistics of where to stay, getting to port, etc. for the six of us.

I looked on this site, but most conversations are years old. Anyone been more recently and willing to share some tips or advice?

    Appreciate your input,
    Marge

Can't say that I have recently stayed in Vancouver but I did stay at the Hampton Inn which was very close to the port.

We flew into Seattle and rented a car and drove north, stayed a few days in the Hampton Inn to see Vancouver then
dropped off the car after dropping off everyone at the ship and then picked it up again after the cruise and headed
back to Seattle and stayed in Seattle a few days.

Rented from National Rent a car which at the time did not have a drop off fee.
It was cheaper to fly into Seattle and we were a big group so the savings was worth it and paid for a few extra days
of sightseeing in the area, the rental car and we got to see Victoria.

We stayed at the Marriott in Vancouver, it was fine and well located. I can't help with logistics to port, etc. but the city is easy to navigate and hotel will help with car service to port.

eta: Vancouver is a wonderful city - if the cruise leaves from there I would prefer to spend the time in Vancouver than flying into Seattle and dealing with the drive north. Unless you can arrive in Seattle a few days early enough to enjoy that city before driving to Vancouver, leaving a day or two for Vancouver as well.

We spent three nights in Vancouver sight-seeing. We wanted a timeshare-like experience, and stayed at the Landis Suites: http://www.landissuitesvancouver.com/

We flew on miles. The mileage cost to fly to Seattle and Vancouver was the same, so we went straight to Vancouver. Cash might be worth flying to Seattle.

We spent one day biking around Stanley Park, and that was fantastic. We spent a second day visiting the aquarium and a few other sights (which I don't recall). We used public transportation while staying in Vancouver, and either took cabs or booked a car service to get us to port. To get from port, we booked a car service directly to the airport.

Thank you all. This is exactly the type info I was looking for.

Right now, Seattle and Vancouver air cost is close, so flying into Vancouver makes more sense.

            absolutely, it's a long drive !

Plus the US dollar is strong in Canada at the moment so you may get more bang for your hotel buck.

We stayed at the Fairmont Waterfront which is right across the street from the cruise terminal. The Fairmont Waterfront is one of the nicest hotels in Vancouver with a great location but is a little pricey.

I've stayed in the Fairmont previously for a conference. It is a wonderful hotel.

If it were just my husband and I, no problem, but we would need 2 rooms and that will get REALLY pricey!

Ended up going a different way. Airbnb. Got a 2 bedroom condo that fits the 6 of us for less than 1 hotel room (we would have needed 2). I used Airbnb for a few nights in Sarasota last year and was happy with the experience. Had forgotten about them.
bnoble: I did book Landis ($760 CDN), but will now cancel. It was a good choice to keep the family together. We live in FL, they in NY, so every minute together is precious.

I second this. We did the hop-on-hop-off in Vancouver and it was very good. We have done it in many cities.
