Just bought $1.94 / gallon gas

I will be back in the states for a spell, and was amazed today to buy gas for $1.94 a gallon here in eastern North Carolina.

I guess the Chinese economic turmoil and OPEC's moves against fracking competitors are paying off for American motorists.

I paid $1.99 for regular in NJ this week.

Still $2.59 by me.

I saw $1.89 in New Orleans on Tuesday. I paid $2.17 today at the Indian Reservation (no taxes) but locally it's about $2.45.

Lowest I've seen was $2.18 (on a reservation), but it's $2.48 in town.

Yesterday it was $1.92/gallon. This morning it had jumped to $2.05/gallon. What I find interesting is that it always drifts downward 1 or 2 cents/gallon, then skyrockets back up at 10 to 15 cents/gallon.

Lowest I've seen is $ 2.259 and that was what I paid in CT last Saturday. Nothing cheaper on the way to Maine or here in Maine so far and usually gas is cheaper here than in CT.

According to GasBuddy, it's $2.23 around here. For some reason the best prices are usually 45 minutes to the west of us, before they get crazy high through Chicago and Illinois, but ours were pretty high this past summer because of a localish refinery shut down, and I'm not sure they've gone back to normal yet. Couple of trips this summer were the first time ever prices were lower in Illinois (halfway mark on 80) than here -- or than eastern Iowa, although why that was I dunno. Eastern Iowa was back down again end of August, so temporary blip there maybe.

I was talking to my son who is 27 about this. He has been driving for 10 years, and he told me he has never seen a gas price whose first number is "1".

Gas is $2.69 at our Sam's Club. The price has dropped over $1.00 /gal in the last month or so.

Lowest I saw on the trip home was $ 2.229 in Maine, but when I got near home I gassed up at Citgo for $ 2.239.
