Pat, I am thinking of driving to Loreto from the USA and I want to take my boat. Is this a problem ?
    .

I don't think so--but I've never done it. Re-entering the U.S.A. they may look the boat over fairly carefully, but entering Mexico should cause zero problems. You'll need to use regular lanes to re-enter the U.S.A.

I'm afraid it's just the location and there is nothing else nearby

They had lots of openings, no waiting when we got there. We were able to schedule our appointments for a day, and time, that worked with another flight I had so we were already going to be at the airport.
Location, Location, Location... They schedule appointments every day, but staff must be very limited. I'm glad others don't have to wait so long.

We got Precheck from Puerto Vallarta last week, but did not get it going to PV in mid-November. (That was when I hoped to have had it!) PVR does not have a precheck line, but did not have you take shoes off or toiletry bags out. I did take my computer out, but might could have left it in. Everyone went through quickly.

Every time I have tried doing this there is a problem. I don't recall having my Iris scan done, only fingerprints. From what I recall the location I was at didn't have Iris Scan and I had to go to a different location to do it, and never did. I think it's because of this that I have issues. It's up for renewal next year, so am trying to figure out whether to renew, and / or get global entry.

I've done so a number of times. You do not have to pay additional for GE or TSA precheck if you get approved for Nexus. It's redundant

If they don't have a scan of your iris, that could be an issue. The other scenario I ran into was that I renewed my passport during the period I had my Nexus. I forgot to update the new passport info on my Nexus account so when I was trying to use Nexus, it was getting declined because my passport info had expired even though Nexus was still valid. It wasn't until I updated with the new passport info that it worked. Not sure if that is your situation

Leaving Maui we did not get the pre-check from Alaska Airlines. I carry about 8 pounds of lead in my back pack for fishing. Going to Maui it was no problem. Leaving Maui the lead was a problem. I was taken into custody, swabbed, sniffed, patted down and then re-scanned and re-swabbed. I was thinking I was going to get a colonoscopy by the way everyone at TSA was acting. The xray machine can't penetrate lead was the final word from TSA when I asked what had happened.

That must be the problem because my Passport expires after my NEXUS card as I already ran into a problem when my passport expired shortly after I got my NEXUS card. Hopefully when I renew next year, they will have iris scanning capability then, otherwise this time I will make the effort and appointment to get it done, even if I have to drive 2 hours to Toronto.

I live 1.5 hours away from airport but they let you schedule when it is convenient to you.

To me, it is worth it.
I fly 8-10 times per year
                    Husband flies 4-6 times.
The Pre Check line is normally much shorter. And even if you fly 1-2 times per year internationally, it is a nice perk.
How does global entry work on international flights compared to pre-check ? Is global entry a separate customs line ?

Yes, Global Entry is a separate line. We haven't used it yet, but that's how it was explained to us. There are kiosks at the airports that offer it. We'll get a chance to try it out when we fly home from Vancouver, BC in January.

                      From the TSA website:

                      Benefits of Global Entry

                      Benefits for Global Entry Members

Your time is valuable. As a pre-screened Global Entry member, you arrive in the United States, check-in at the Global Entry kiosk and you're on your way. So what are you waiting for?
