  • Most popular places to travel at New Years

Ok, so here it is. I have never vacationed before at New Years because it has always been a high peak season and never had enough seniority. Found out last year, had I requested there was a very good chance I could have gotten the time off. So thinking for 2016/2017 that maybe I'll go somewhere and actually do something for new years.

That being said, I am looking at places I should avoid. I already know New York, and Orlando will be super busy and either hard to get accommodations, they charge an arm and a leg, or it is just going to be so damn crowded I don't want to go.

So looking for other places that I should look to avoid. I know for us northern folk where it is cold and we want to go somewhere warm Phoenix, & Las Vegas are probably out. Any other recommendations either for or against?

There seems to 26 units available in RCI for Las Vegas for News Years Eve. Im using Worldmark for the search. In the Worldmark System Im seeing plenty of available units in Vegas for New Years Eve.

I was looking for Cabo for New Years Eve. Nothing available that I want, yet anyway.

What are you looking for? Do you want fireworks, shows, etc? If so Las Vegas would probably be your best bet but it does get very crowded. We have done New Years in Las Vegas but we were invited guests of the Flamingo so we had a private New Years Eve dinner and show and dancing.

Here's an idea: go to the island of Madeira! Fireworks over Funchal are absolutely awesome!!

Flights are not so expensive in the winter, it's warm, and not so far from the east coast, and it wasn't too hard to get an exchange.

Miami might not be popular but it's warm, has an active night life on South beach and a nice fireworks show.

NYC is fun but is crowded but not overly crowded like I thought it would be, just crowded.
I was able to get MC for NYE thru RCI a few years ago so it's not impossible.

As for NYC... I would like to point out that there is a lot more to do in NYC than stand in Times Square all night to watch the ball drop. We had a lovely and civilized NYE this year, went to dinner (just regular ala carte and not even a sky-high prix fix) and then rang in the New Year with Sandra Bernhardt at Joe's Pub. The week following New Year's is a nice quiet week to be in the city for shows, etc.

I saw your post for Morritt's for NYE. They'd likely have a party at the resort but there are probably others within a 10 or 20 minute drive that would be nice.

There is Daytona Beach, Ft Lauderdale and St Petersburg in Florida that would be warm. Branson might have a decent N Y eve party but would be cold.

I think you are getting whacked by auto correct.

That's the thing, not sure about fireworks but I think that would be nice but not a hi priority. I'm thinking something that I could POSSIBLY rent and or get rid of if I for some reason CANNOT get the time off. I could book now, but we have to put our vacation time requests for December to March, in September. I won't know until October if I get the time off or not so it would have to be something that I can get rid of easily if we can't go. This year it kind of falls at a weird time because I could leave on Christmas day and come back on New Years day. Warm is probably the big thing. I know Branson Missouri is supposed to be popular for New Years, and it is a little bit closer to a certain extent, but I don't think it is warm enough for me.
