  • 3 hours in NYC

June 5 we will arrive at JFK at about 2:20 PM. Leaving at 7:59 PM. I figure we will have from 3 to 6 available. Where can we go? We have seen Manhattan. I would like to see something of Brooklyn, Coney Island, and environs. Can this be done, and how best to do it?
P.S. I have never tasted a cannoli. even had to google the spelling.

You could take a cab to Coney Island. 25 minutes if there's no traffic (no telling what it would be in traffic), and that's after you've waited on the taxi line. But you'd need to use Uber or arrange a local car service to get back to the airport, then deal with security all over again.

Coney Island is soooo far out, I think it's very, very ambitious for a three-hour visit. Even the closest parts of Brooklyn...it would be hard to be sure that you could make it back in time for your flight.

Sorry to dash your hopes and dreams of Brooklyn, but it would be much safer to visit the Upper East Side or Queens--and even then I would be a puddle of anxiety....

Wacky, the OP has already carved out airport time - the three hours are the ones that are actually free. So I agree w you, and I prob wouldn't do it, but it is theoretically workable and the OP could at least see the amusement park and grab a hot dog... hmmm, where is Nathan's?

If you stay at the airport you could join priority pass and hang out in the business lounge. I think its too much of a hassle to try to break out of the airport dungeon for a three hour break but when I was a smoker I always did.

I suspect Big Frank could recommend some great Italian places to get a cannoli not far from the airport in queens.
Suggest you hop on the AirTrain from your terminal to Jamaica or actually Howard Beach....didn't we go to Howard Beach with Frank ???? .... Great Italian food there and not risky using the air train to get back.

            Hope you are TSA PreCheck

I think That Flushing Meadow Park is doable. Not many go see the worlds fair and it was just redone. There are some great food places on 108 st right by the corona ice king

Thank you all for your responses and suggestions. Looks like I will have to rethink those 3 hours. I just hate sitting around airports.

Which terminal. Some are actually very nice. If American, you can go on eBay and buy lounge passes for $15-20 each for the admirals club.
Or treat yourself to a really great steak dinner in the terminal at Bobby Van's

I think you can also bu club passes for delta and United as well.
Jet Blue terminal very very cool with nice restaurants.

Where are the nice restaurants in the Jet Blue terminal? We had dinner there last year when we flew out in the evening. We found a kind of fast food area and got hamburgers that were okay, but I'd love to find a nice restaurant in the Jet Blue terminal.

There's GOT to be a great italian place in Howard Beach/Ozone Park that is far more doable than coney island. Come on Frank put on your thinking cap.

I am amazed you have never had a cannoli.

I have heard of cannoli but do not think I ever tried it or know anything about it other than what I just read on google. I always thought canoli was like ravioli which I used to like when I was a kid. i think it was chef boy r de beef ravioli or maybe ravioli o's ? So its a desert is it ?

I get good cannolis at the deli in the Aquarius casino resort in Laughlin NV. We go there frequently. I had them in New York as well and also at the Italian delis in SE Florida.
