I was wondering what is the dealio with New Orleans. We were out with friends the other evening and they said they liked New Orleans but really didn't say why.

My favorite place is pretty close to home, about 1.5 hour drive away. Paradise Mt Rainier and the mountains east of Mt Rainier. Favorite place to fly to is Nuevo Vallarta Mexico in the winter months.

        Vermont #1; New Hampshire. #2

Both within a 5.5- 6 hour drive for us (in Hudson Valley area of NY) and why we own fixed week timeshares in both. And why we would like to retire in one of them.

Great food, live music of many varieties, a bit of history if you like that, gambling, swamps and gators, what more could you ask for?

I second New Orleans. We end up in Orlando and Williamsburg a lot too, but that is mainly for convenience traveling with family. We are in Las Vegas now. My husband loves to go there.

When I worked, I went to New Orleans several times a year. I really liked it. I took DH with me one time and he hated it. We went back a few years ago, and his feelings didn't change. I guess it depends.

I thought about going to New Orleans for Halloween or Martigras but the one year we were going to go was the year Katrina hit and the other year just didn't happen. I have the Worldmark as a timeshare I could use.

Now I think I could go any time of year because I don't plan on partying all night long, maybe just until 1 am or 2 am at most and light on the alcohol. I doubt I would be interested in the food. Watching drunk people doing stupid things is always kind of fun. I think bayou fishing or alligator hunting might be fun.

I like to go to a beach location in Florida, I want a room with a view, and easy access to the beach, and just to relax.

As per my trips in 2017, I would suggest you all to visit, Kyoto in Japan, South Korea and Golden triangle in India with Udaipur. I gave one week for Japan and S-Korea and anther week in India (Delhi-Agra-Ranthambore-Jaipur-Udaipur and Ranakpur). Plus I am doing research on Bali and Malaysia as they have become some popular tourist attractions this year.

On New Orleans, I have been 5 or 6 times over the years and enjoyed it, but the more I read about crime there, the more I have questioned going again. Then their really ugly local shananigans with their history over the past year has been a real turn off.

The appeal of places change. I really liked Acapulco when I went three decades ago, but I would not go now, even if it was a free trip.

Well here are my details of my trip to India, where I booked a Golden Triangle Tour with Udaipur. You should start the trip from New Delhi, as air flights to New Delhi are much cheaper, in comparison, to other cities in India. Spend 24-36 hours in Delhi and then rent a car, and drive for Agra to explore the Taj Mahal (it's also one of the seven wonders of the world). A 24 stay in Agra is enough and later driver for Jaipur, along with on-route stops at Fatehpur Sikri and Chand Baori.
FYI - Chand Baori is a stepwell, which was featured on 2012 Batman movies. Remember the scene when Bruce wayne was poisoned in a jail under ground.

You must stay two ways in Jaipur, as the city is amazing and a heave for shopping lovers like me. Then from Jaipur, move for Udaipur, along with on-route stop at Ranakpur Temples (it's a UNESCO World Heritage site). Then spare two days for Udaipur sightseeing. And then come back to Delhi by flight or hire a car till Delhi, where you can spend the night in Jaipur and reach Delhi on next day. I am suggesting the second option, as with this, one can also visit Kumbhalgarh Fort.
